Mass Effect 1 Warning - Origin

Hey guys, I'd just like to warn you about buying Mass Effect 1 from Origin. The game doesn't work right out of the gate. One of many on Origin that don't, I seriously don't get how EA gets away with this but whatever. In order to play you have to go to BioWare's website and download the 1.0.2 patch. After that you have to download a crack and from there you will be able to play. Just thought I'd give people a heads up, the game is old but some people may still want to get it. I just bought it about a week ago.

 

EDIT: You also have to create an empty notepad file and name it MassEffectLauncher.exe since the Origin download doesn't come with that file.

To still give BioWare money for their work.

Sounds more like people over at EA, don't like being team players and except you to patch it your self, and then to top that, crack it as well.

You could always buy the game on Origin and then just Pirate it rather than download it on their service. As long as someone gets payed for their work it doesn't seem like it matters where you download it from.

True, but I personally feel that if Orgin and EA wont integrate the patch and crack for you, nor Bioware adding it to the install, I would not give any of them my money and Just Pirate it anyways. I myself, bought the game and played it a long time ago, Im just putting in my 2cents on how much its a joke about companies complaining about pirating, then they do stuff like this. It's like they have supper smarts in developing games but lack simple common since.

 

Sorry for the mini rant, just mind blows me that they just could not integrate this without the user having to resort to some form of Pirating techniques in order to get the game to run correctly.

I got Mass Effect from Origin and it works just fine without doing any of that.

I got Mass Effect from Origin and it works just fine without doing any of that.

The issue was that the launcher did not download with the game, it happens to some but not all. It's also an issue with games like the first Crysis. Some people have the issue but others do not.

As soon as I read his comment, I knew someone would take it the wrong way and say something stupid. He's not motioning piracy. He's making fun of the company because they're too lazy to do the patch and crack themselves and tell you to do it, and explains that it's basically the SAME thing as going out and pirating it yourself. He was making a joke.

Ummm, well mine works, as do all my other Origin games, only game not to work is rainbow six vegas 2 on Steam, but i give no fucks as i have another 380+ games.

Again, only some people have the problems. It's a warning to be careful. Another game on Origin that has a reputation for not working is Crysis. A good example of which is that my Rainbow Six Vegas 2 works perfectly fine and has never had an issue.

Why you buy everything you can off origin. Luckily I don't need origin to play old EA games (looking at you ubisoft).
