Professional Production/Editing PC Build

Budget (including currency): $3000

Country: US

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Video Editing/Production/Photography

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Really want a solid build that can do both production work and handle gaming for free time. The help with a build would be solid. I know I'll need a lot of storage. Now do I need pcie gen 3 or 4? Please comment below and it'll be a huge help.

Pci-e generation would not be relevant to video editing as pci-e is a hardware feature set and not software. But it would be more relevant to what hardware you wanted to use.

What program do you edit in and is it compatible with gpu rendering

What is the point of the different storage. Just curious. I see the samsung and the adata xpg.

might seem weird going with a 3070ti vs a 3080 and 12700k vs 12900k in this budget but for Adobe Premier Pro (and most of the adobe suite) it's not a huge gap between 12900k and 12700k

https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Adobe-Premiere-Pro-12th-Gen-Intel-Core-vs-AMD-Ryzen-5000-Series-2242/#12thGenvs11thGenPremiereProPerformance

3070ti vs 3080 is the same story, biggest upgrade would come from 8B to 12GB version of a 3080 (+$200) and that would effect exporting by a few % but not noticeably in use

https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/Adobe-Premiere-Pro---NVIDIA-GeForce-RTX-3070-3080-3090-Performance-1951/

64GB of ram may be more than you need if you aren't getting into after effects (lighting and cloud effects eat ram for breakfast) or having more than one program open at once (ie exporting in premier and working on the thumbnail in photoshop)

Storage was easy, decent sized OS drive so everything fits and a second huge capacity gen4 drive for storing all the project files. I prefer the Q4 drive since it comes with that huge cooler to keep the drive controller cool during long import/exports

4000D is a nice size for expansion if you want to add some 3.5in archive drives or capture cards etc. 3x 140mm fans, 2 for the front and 1 for top at the back will keep the case in positive pressure reducing dust ingress,

Would it be worthy longterm to upgrade to a 3080 rather than the 3070ti... also this build will allow upgrades if new products come out?

longterm upgrade would have to be a 3090, the performance is so close between the 3070ti and 3080 they may as well be the same card.

future upgrades will depend on what you are planning to upgrade,

the motherboard and z690 chipset has;

1x PCIe 5.0 x16, 1x PCIe 4.0 x16, 1x PCIe 3.0 x16, 1x PCIe 3.0 x1 so if gen5 cards come out the board is already supporting them

2x gen4 NVME slots (taken by the 2 drives from the build) and a gen3 NVME slot

the only "restriction" is 4 DDR4 slots (2 taken by the 2x32GB ram kit) so you'll be limited to DDR4 instead of DDR5 unless you swap motherboards. It's not worth it yet due to DDR5 prices but since 12th gen works on both, you could swap motherboard and ram and keep all the other parts in the system

realistically, the max upgrades you could do would be a 12900KS, 3090ti (or 4000 series GPU) and some more DDR4 ram to max out the 128GB chipset limitation.

Mostly cost. The 1TB for the system and apps is higher performance. The other drive is 4TB and not as fast, still much faster than SATA.
