GPU dimensions

paulw10

apologies for asking such a noob question but I find myself getting confused when looking at the dimensions for GPUs as the manufacturers seem to use height and width interchangeably.

when I look the dimensions for a GPU I am assuming the lowest number after length, that's usually in the 40-60 mm range is referring to this distance here

Correct??

in my head this would be the width of the card but it looks to me like some call it height?

It's "height" if you're looking at it from the side inserted into a PCIe slot in most cases.

As a general rule, the dimension you are confused about is going to be the smallest of the three measurements on just about every card.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.
