When we found a Razer Boomslang for sale, we couldn’t pass up a chance to relive the glory days of LAN parties, Quake, and endless frags. How does it stack up against the modern mice of today?

Seeing "Kärna" and hearing "Karna" is a bit expected, but it always feels so wrong to hear the Ä get abused...

But "Kärna" is Swedish for "Core". (also "seed" but that doesn't seem applicable here.)

But ball mice is something I am happy is a by gone era.

Though, never seen any consumer electronics arrive in a cookie jar before...

I had one of those OMG. You made me remember that and ball mice. I had repressed those childhood memories.

Yes I also had a 3M precision mousing surface. Yes I still have it. Yes I do have like 2 new in packaging. I don't know why I kept them but I bought them long long ago on closeout at Walmart for pennies. They are the 3dfx version ones.

The shape is so weird though. Like it is looks like a piece of toast or something... maybe a tooth? Either way it makes them smaller then a normal mouse pad. They fit inside them.

They slide everywhere though. Just no way to keep them in place. I had to put it on a higher friction mouse pad. I was using it up until I recently got a big mousing surface.

I wanted a LTT Northern lights one but you were out of stock. Maybe I will save up for a screw driver.

If anyone wondered what a Boom Slang is, direct translation from Afrikaans is Tree Snake.

Ball mice, the bane of my youth. Did I suck at games? Yes. Did the mouse make it that much worse? Yes. Clean the ball, clean the mouse pad, clean the rollers, still get ass handed by Quake3 Arena bots. My first optical mouse was an IntelliMouse, I have several of them in various condition that still get used with other PC's around the house when I need a mouse but my current daily is a cheap Razer Basilisk Essential. It's comfortable to hold, has adjustable DPI, and it was on sale.

I wish Razer would give this mouse the same treatment Logitech gave to the MX518 with the HERO re-launch. Between those two and the Pro IntelliMouse, you'd have some of the best most legendary mice.

On the off chance you havnt already filmed the upcoming vid on gaming mice, do consider including something from MADCATZ. They dont get enough credit imo.

Their mice look crazy uncomfortable, but they really arnt.

I went from a OG Logitech G5 to a RAT 7 MMO (the OG version), to a MSI Clutch GM70 (absolute garbage), to a EVGA X5 (also garbage) back to the newer edition RAT 8+.

Out of all of them, the G5 and the RATs were the only ones i liked. The only downside to the RAT mice is their feat (pads) wear out extremely quickly and they dont sell replacements so you have to go the DIY route to replace them which isnt great.

But otherwise for a claw or tip grip the RAT series is great, and even for palm grips u can adjust then overall length of the mouse and replace the palm rest for either a higher or lower elevation.

The inclusion of both pinky and thumb rests is also something I highly appreciate as once u get used to having them u'll never want to go back to a mouse without them.

Here I thought I'd be the only one still with a 3M pad (glued to a std. mouse pad)

You understand my pain if your glued it to a mouse pad too. Is it still your daily driver? Mine was up until like 3 months ago.

I went to order an LTT one but they didn't have the sizes I could use 😞
