Hi. I am looking for a laptop that will suit me for engineering university. I want a laptop that is likely to last me throughout university. I have been looking at a few online but have not found anything that is quite to my liking. I have a budget between $1500-$2500 CAD. Any help is appreciated.

Find out what applications the university uses then find the recommended specs for those applications, choose a laptop matching those specs, or a little higher for wiggle room. If you will be using the laptop for gaming as well make sure the hardware is capable of running the type of games you usually prefer as well by checking those recommended specs.

What kind of engineering?

What kinds of things have been stopping you with the ones you've looked at so far?

My first year of engineering is like a general engineering program, then you pick your major in the second year. My university has a recommended spec with at least a four core processor, 16gb ram, and a dedicated graphics card. But the preferred specs are to have more than a four core processor with 32gb of ram. I just haven’t found anything that I believe would last me although out university

At the budget ranges you're mentioning, pretty much anything should last a minimum of 4 years.

You definitely want to get more than 4 cores.  8 is a good sweet spot between top of the line pricing and good performance.

Feel free to get one that has 16GB RAM *if* it has the ability to expand the RAM.

A dedicated GPU is definitely a must for almost any sort of engineering.

Without knowing what's really available in your market, I can't give you a lot, but if you drop some links, we can probably get you some further advice.
