When Should you Update BIOS Firmware?

Hello Everyone,

I hope you are doing well today. I realized that my BIOS is almost two years out of date, I use Asus Prime x570-P and on current 3001 version from Dec 2020. Don't have any issues with the PC but just wondering if this is something I should update when it falls behind. Lemme know!

From my understanding BIOS isn't a very needed update unless you're upgrading your CPU or in some cases memory. For example (old hardware example but still) quadcore CPU support was only added to Optiplex 700 series computers in one of the final BIOS updates, so you literally can't use them without the update. Less common now though

If you update your CPU, start having strange issues or require a feature supported in a later BIOS, then look into updating it. I will note that board does NOT have CPU-less BIOS flashback so if you do upgrade CPU, make sure to update the BIOS first.

My advice has always been NOT to update the BIOS unless you have a specific need for it. There's always a small chance that something might go wrong and in the worst case you might brick your motherboard.

As the others have said.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

If there is a specific new feature you want or bug you're trying to fix where you have good reason to believe the new BIOS is the solution.

Otherwise, leave it alone.

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.
