Hello. I'm asking you all for a helpful argument to support why I should build my own PC in the $1400-1300 price range, instead of buying this prebuilt pc that my parents want to buy - https://grandcomputersmart.com/gaming-dekstops/hp-omen-obelisk-intel-core-i7-9700-16gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1660-ti.

Please write things that i can say in the comments to let me build my own.

If you don't already know the reasons why building your own is better, why do you want to do it?

Corps aren't your friends. "Bottleneck calculators" are BS. Only suckers buy based on brand. It's your PC, do what makes you happy.  If your build meets your needs, you don't need anyone else to "rate" it for you. And talking about being part of a "master race" is cringe. Watch this space for further truths people need to hear.

Do you already have a GPU ready to install? Because if not, building from scratch in this climate is sorta ill advised.

What are you going to build for cheaper/better than the pre-built?

Have you built a PC before?

Where are you going to get a GPU from?

What do you plan on using it for?

What features or functionality is that pre-built missing?

And finally, if you build your own PC, where are you gonna get a GPU from?

I ask because there are myriad posts already about people's custom builds and upgrades being put on hold for the past 2 years while waiting to get a GPU at MSRP. It's real out here.

Salt SYSTEMs:

SYSTEM-Infinity+1(Centerpiece) -- Ryzen 5600X + RX 6800 XT + Galahad 360 + 32GB + Thermaltake P3

SYSTEM-Embrace (Portable) --Ryzen 5600 + RX 5700 XT + Galahad 240 + 16GB + Hyte Revolt 3

Alright this sounds like homework, but pros/cons:

Building yourself:

- You get exactly what you want

- You can reuse/recycle parts from existing systems to save money

- You hopefully learn something

Prebuilt:

- It's a crapshoot if the thing you get will last beyond it's warranty

- It's a crapshoot if the thing will survive being shipped to you

- That system itself is already essentially a 3 or 4-year-old system in terms of computer parts (the CPU was released in 2018, the GPU, the GPU in 2019.)

And since it's a HP...

HP has relatively poor build quality for their consumer systems. Most prebuilt "gaming" systems are a bad value, but the Dell and HP "gaming" desktops tend to be extremely bad values.

- You'll be putting most of it on the curb, not reusing half of it, should you attempt to reuse it for another build.

I already have a GPU ready to install and I want to build a PC because I have a pretty old laptop that can't run anything. I will use it for gaming/work (editing) and schoolwork too. The prebuilt is hp and also (a prebuilt) so I would rather build one myself, for the experience, gameplay, and upgradability.

I have not built one before but I have experience helping my friend, and I have watched a ton of tutorials + have someone to help me that knows how to.

Outside of a discrete graphics card the price to performance is almost always better when building your own rig.

Because you get to choose your own parts you can put every dollar of your budget EXACTLY where it is needed for your use case.

Building your own will give you a sense of ownership which hopefully leads to a greater respect and appreciation for the computer.

Proprietary hardware often included with pre-built computers make upgrading in the future much more difficult.

You will have a greater understanding of how the technology you use on a daily basis works.
