Hello everyone.

Recently I moved to a residence and I have an ethernet port in the room which I wanted to use. I connected my PC to it with a cable and instantly the orange and green lights on the port in the PC lighted up (good).

The problem is than whenever I boot the PC, when Windows starts up the lights go off and I have no internet connection via Ethernet (bad). Windows says that nothing is connected via cable. Very rarely, the connection remains during boot and then it works without problems until I turn off the PC and then I keep losing it again. I had used cable internet with this computed before and never had any problems.

I find very scarce info about this issue. I read somewhere that it might have something to do with WoL, but I disabled it and it made no difference. Any info or help would be much appreciated.

My specs are the following:

Ryzen 5600X

Asus TUF B550M-Plus Wifi

32 Gb 3600 MHz Cl 14 Memory

3070 Ti

Windows 10 Pro 21H1
OS build    19043.1526

Thanks!

EDIT:

I've noticed that if I leave the computer running long enough (more than an hour), the ethernet connection comes back and it starts working again. I have no idea why is it acting so bizarre.

Does WiFi work ok?

Try a CMOS clear

Then try a UEFI BIOS upgrade to newest stable

Try a different cable just in case, they do go bad sometimes.

Try other ports on your modem or router as well

If this residence is shared Internet it sounds like a network problem on their end. Either the wiring, or the network switch/router wherever it's located.

Are you allowed access to the network equipment? I'd start there and test the cable in the wall.

Wifi works ok, just slow.

I have the latest BIOS and I did not try another cable but the one I'm using worked the day before in my office without any problem.

I have no modem or router, the connection is shared with all the building so I'm connecting the wall socket directly to my motherboard.

Thanks!

Sadly I cannot access any config or wiring, so I will probably have to ask to contact the ISP. As I have mentioned, the cable was working fine the day before in another system and location. The only thing was that I had never encountered this problem of Ethernet light going off and having no internet when I booted the computer.

Thanks!

If you connect another computer to the same wall jack and get the same behavior it's likely an issue with their infrastructure. If everything works totally as it should it would suggest an issue with your computer.

Is there any other Ethernet socket nearby?
If I am understanding correctly, just want to nail down exactly what the issue is
