New build compatibility check.

Insanity1999

I just want my build compatibly checked please.

I have a case with .4mm clearance left for cooler but ill just bend the acrylic sidepanel or cut a hole lol.

My other thought is will my CS850M PSU be okay? Pcpartpicker threw out a warning but afaik you dont need the 4pin?

F4-3600C16D-32GTZNC is the exact model of the RAM.

Is there anything else I overlooked? im only upgrading cpu platform.

You can ditch the BIOS update service, that board has BIOS Flashback so you can do it yourself with a flash drive and 10 minutes. Everything looks compatible, but if you care about price to performance there are some things you can change.

Im all ears for price to performance, I didn't have a whole lot of options in terms of memory etc that I thought would work, pccasegear.com is the only option I have. What do you suggest?

those are some of the worst prices I've ever seen for 12th gen. It's worse than most scalper prices!

Those prices are horrendous, there has to be some other option cause that 5800x is the price of a 5900x, 32gb ram is the price of 64gb ram, basically everything is double the price. What country are you in and why is pccasegear your only option?  Or are you in austrailia or somewhere that uses a weaker dollar than usd? Which would explain the pricing

The psu should be fine, not prefferable to use that psu but it atleast shouldnt explode

it's all compatible, you won't need a bios update for the B550 chipset to work with 5800X out of the box but having the latest bios is usually a good idea for a starting point of the system.

850W will depend on the GPU, more than enough watts for the system, 8pin EPS is enough to run the CPU overclocked with PBO and manually up to large system water cooling,

You can get more performance for $2 more going intel 12700k

PCPartPicker Part List: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/mR7cW3

CPU: Intel Core i7-12700K 3.6 GHz 12-Core Processor  ($364.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z690-F GAMING WIFI ATX LGA1700 Motherboard  ($396.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $761.98

First, that's a DDR5 motherboard. You will spend a lot more on compatible memory than it's worth. Second, they aren't based in the US (at least I hope not for the sake of those prices) so you can't use those prices.

I agree they probably should be going Intel, but not like that.

It's an Australian company, those are the prices you'd find in Australia.

Go for something Alder Lake instead pricing out a 12600k machine is the same price and will perform better in games and the same in production workloads. Get a cheaper Z690 (DDR4) board to go with it and you should be able to get a 240mm AIO for the same price as that cooler.

what will you be using the pc for and is there any reason you need a ryzen cpu?

No specific reason for AMD, I am getting a lot of messages to go intel so I guess I need to go reconsider that. I really will only be gaming on it

1080ti atm, im just upgrading cpu platform. Seems like 5600x is best for 1080ti currently but gpu is aging and I want it to be somewhat future proof once I replace gpu as I will probably be running this for 5 odd years

in that case all you probably need is a new mother board and a new CPU I would recommend a 12 gen intel cpu see some benchmarks but all you probable need is an i7 or i5 I would also stick to ddr4 for now and if you won't be doing any serious overclocking even go for a cheaper motherboard in case you think you will be upgrading to ddr5 in the future I would also recommend pcpart picker to pick components and check for compatibility

Get a cheaper Z690 (DDR4) board

Any reason for Z690 over B660? They lose out on CPU OC, but keep XMP. Lose out on PCIE 5.0 for storage, but that's not getting used yet.

https://www.pccasegear.com/products/56859/asus-prime-b660-plus-d4-motherboard

12600k+ B660 is less than the 5800x and motherboard.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

I doubt I'll upgrade anything, I'll just use it until its slow and just replace it in 5 ish years. 12600k seems to be within 5fps of 5800x looking at game reviews. So why is everyone choosing intel?

12600k is slightly cheaper but motherboards seem to be more expensive looking at the better selling ones (usually getting better support).. Is this just intel preference? fps is within margin of error looking at game reviews

It's not an Intel preference in as much as it's saving money. As you saw they're pretty much within margin of error. If you can save $50 or $100 why not?

AMD does seem to have some issues with stuttering when you have TPM enabled. You need TPM for W11, so if W11 is a thought for you, Intel might make more sense yet.
