Should I wait for my DDR5 memory?

So I bought DDR5 4800mhz memory from Crucial's official website on the 13th of January a day later I got an email saying the kit I ordered was out of stock and got a general estimate of 7 to 10 days before it was back in stock, after about 15 days I emailed them asking about my order (they offered a 15% discount which I was quite happy about) , after a week I emailed them for an eta and they replied that the material availability date was the 7th of February, I still have no email that the product has been dispatched.

 

So my question is: should I wait for the DDR5 from crucial (£51 /$70) or buy a overpriced one from eBay (£95/$130) 

Unfortunately getting both isn't an option because I have a very limited budget.

I really want the ram ASAP but don't want to overpay

 

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Just go DDR4. 

No reason yet to spend the money on DDR5 in general.

Do you really need DDR5? 4800 Mhz is also really fast, so MB compatibility also comes into question. 

 

EDIT: I guess DDR5 base speed is 4800.

Assuming the motherboard in their signature is correct, it's DDR4. So they'd also be out the cost of a DDR5 motherboard. 

Manufacturers need to fix this stupid naming scheme on motherboards and 6xx chipset. Why in the world is there a DDR4 and DDR5 motherboard with the same "gaming X" name.

Agreed. I assumed this was for a new board/build based on the signature MB being DDR4...

I edited. There's a DDR5 version under the same name. Manufacturers and naming scheme have gotten very ridiculous.

That's dumb, but I see the DDR5 version now as well.

 

Regardless, OP doesn't need DDR5 I'm guessing lol..

Already bought DDR5 motherboard and I am past the return date

My Gigabyte Z690 Gaming x (DDR5 model) is compatible with DDR5 up to 5200mhz

also 4800mhz is the slowest DDR5 speed available

Ah, didn't realize the base speed was that high. Never mind then! If you ever get the RAM kit... enjoy!
