DDR5 integrated dual channel enough?

Since DDR5 has integrated dual channel a single stick is enough to be running in dual channel mode. Does that mean having one stick will have very similar performance to running with two? I know 2 would then have quad channel, but am unsure how much of a difference that makes. has anyone benchmarked this?

 

For context I'm running a sffpc that for clearance reasons due to my AIO I am forced to only have one stick and am wondering how much performance I'm leaving on the table.

The two dual channel terms are different, one offered by the design of DDR5 while the other offered by the CPU's memory controller able to handle two sets of memory independently. If you use 1 stick, you still get half the theoretical memory bandwidth than someone else with 2.

Cinebench R15 Single thread:168 Multi-thread: 833 

SuperPi (v1.5 from Techpowerup, PI value output) 16K: 0.100s 1M: 8.255s 32M: 7m 45.93s

The integrated dual channel is unrelated to the performance benefits of two (or more) RAM sticks in dual channel mode.

 

Each integrated channel in DDR5 has half as many data lines as the single channel in DDR4. So they have the same bandwidth at the same speed assuming all else is equal, but DDR5 is able to be more efficient by only use a single channel when smaller data is being transmitted.

Why not simply replace the Water Cooler with a standard HSF? Then you get the full benefits of using Dual Channel DDR5. Honestly I doubt most users actually gain anything using AIO Coolers.

Could you please address... In case of DDR5 would be there any difference on async dual channel behavior?

Im especially interested in 8+32 scenario. Should I expect "faster" 16 GB and "usual" 24 GB parts of the ram in this case?
