Hello
I live in the UK and building a pc has become so expensive.

There is no way I can afford a good gaming pc that is future proof for a few years anymore.

My Local supplier is Scan and it’s a great place to go for pc parts. ( link below ). I know they have to work out a price based on what it cost them to buy and make profit. However I worked out it would cost such an astronomical amount to build. So this is we’re I thought it would be great to see the price difference between Uk and USA in a Linus tech tips on some of the top end gaming pc parts.

I'd advise using https://uk.pcpartpicker.com for comparing prices. Scan is good, but are rarely the cheapest in the UK.

PC parts are typically cheaper in the US than most other western countries, due to a mixture of reasons. Just in case you're thinking of buying from the US, you need to take import, VAT and customs fees into account. It's rarely cheaper to import stuff yourself, plus you can end up having to ship things back to the US if you need to claim on warranty.

Okay... WHY are you going for a Computing GPU for a GAMING PC?

The Tesla P40 doesn't even have a single monitor output on the back.

And that GPU goes for ~$7000 on the other side of the pond.

These are not gaming parts but more like workstation parts, the gpu is a workstation gpu, the ssd is useful for workstation uses that involve lots of massive data transfers like trasferring 8k vid, 64gb ram is also something you only find in a workstation cause its basically useless for gaming, 32gb is all most ppl will ever need when it comes to gaming so performance will be fine for games that can consume tons of ram depending on mods like minecraft

Have a look at cheaper gen3 ssds, geforce or radeon gpus, and 16gb ram

Thank you for your comments. There just examples like it says as I was interested in a tech tips video on the subject.

If you want to suggest videos, correct place is:

https://linustechtips.com/topic/1046558-thread-for-linus-tech-tips-video-suggestions/

Though imo this isn't very good topic because it covers just part of the community. And because listing price difference is boring as itself, and listing reasons for price difference isn't that much better. What is interesting, would be video like

Which is kinda comparing retail pricing in US and Canada.

Problem with just comparing prices from listings is that in US prices don't have VAT. So what you see is not directly comparable.

Thank Logical. Sorry about that. 👍🏻

I am not really sure what you are asking.

Do you want a video where Linus shows the difference in prices between the UK and US? I think that would end up being a pretty boring video, and it would be inaccurate in like a week because prices constantly change.

If you want to know the difference in prices then the easiest way is to just open two tabs in your browser, one with PCPartPicker UK and the other with PCPartPicker US, and then look at different components.

If your build is a "Gaming PC", it's not a very well put together one. Others have mentioned, your GPU is going to useless in games (ignoring the fact that it's also like $6000 on it's own - the P40 is somewhat equivalent to a 1080 Ti - still a fast GPU, but quite outdated now, and as a compute card, has no Display output.

You should start by educating yourself on how to build a balanced PC - start in the PC Builds subforum for help.

Also - do you currently already own a PC? If so, what specs? If not... dude. Start smaller.

For Sale: Meraki Bundle

iPhone Xr 128 GB Product Red - HP Spectre x360 13" (i5 - 8 GB RAM - 256 GB SSD) - HP ZBook 15v G5 15" (i7-8850H - 16 GB RAM - 512 GB SSD - NVIDIA Quadro P600)

Thank you for your comments. There just examples like it says as I was interested in a tech tips video on the cost difference between some of the high end pc parts. USA & UK. Seems it’s too hard to do due to other charges like vat and import tax so I guess it would not work. My job for the last 30 years is repairing new and old video arcade games those pcs run any thing from dedicated boards to windows 2000 , XP, Windows 7 and 8 and now we’re starting to see windows 10 coming through. However I have not kept up to the latest parts for my gaming pc which was made years ago for Bio Shock 2 and infinite. Games are now needing more powerful pc’s to run so I’m looking for a good pc to build or buy. The thing is so many people have different and sometimes conflicting ideas on the best graphics card, ram, ssd drives etc. It can be like a mine field and with the cost mistakes are a no no.

But not to worry thanks to the Linus Tech Tips “How is this even possible” from 24th of January 2022.
I have the i7 4770 cpu  so for now Nvidia 3060ti seems the best option + give me more time to save 👍🏻
