I’ve come by a really cheap asus sabertooth x79 motherboard (like really cheap) so me having no will power when it comes to cheap tech I bought it and I’ve also seen cheap cpus like the i7 4930k for less then £20 but the pickings are slim and I’m sure they’ll go for a tad more. But I’ve seen an abundance of Xeon cpus like the e5 2670 v1 and the e5 2689 which are like £15 each and I’m really tempted by them, but, how do they fair up for gaming? They will be coupled with 32gb ram and either a gtx 970 or 980ti (which is pronounced “tie” cheers for clearing that up nvidia as that pronunciation never entered my head until I heard it from your green lair) if I can get it for less then £200. Main question is can I game on the fore mentioned xeons? And will it be good?

Xeons arent really good for gaming, i7 4930k is very good deal if found under 50$, even at 60-70 it would be decent, anything over that not really good.

I Use my knowledge as business owner and self taught technician aswell as an AI to help people. AI might be controversial but it actually works pretty well 90% of the time.

See I was drawn straight to the i7 (stick to what you know right) but I noticed in a lot of the scrapyard wars Linus seemed to side more for xeons which made me think when I saw them. If I had another x79 board I’d buy both just to quench my curiosity

The reason he went for xeons was price. This was before the 4930k became super cheap. Back then it was still an easy 200$ but now it's barely 50$ anymore.

Not competitive it will be either 1080p or 1440p and games like cod, fortnight (usual trash) but also games like Skyrim, cyberpunk, Minecraft, raft nothing too demanding (other then cyberpunk)

That's basically a worst-case scenario for CPU needs. The older ones need high single-threaded performance and then Cyberpunk needs a ton of overall performance. So, yeah, the i7 is pretty much the only way to go - the Xeon won't do so hot in Fortnite and Minecraft unless you only want 60fps.

Yeah it’s at £18 at the moment and I’ll probably leave the Xeon and maybe experiment later on down the line 😂
