GTX 1080TI help

Hello,

I have a system I built back in 2017 and I'm wondering if this is considered good for what I have.

I ran a benchmark on heaven 4.0

Gtx 1080 ti asus poseidon

I7 6700k xmp profile and running at 4.6

16gb trident z ram

Customer water loop.

Temps are getting up to 68 C

I feel like it is running too hot for a water cooled card that also has fans on it as well.

And I don't really understand the settings in Gpu tweak, I just kinda raise them until it crashes lol.

I really don't know much about overclocking so I have no idea what's good or bad or average. Any help is appreciated.

I attached 3 pictures. Scores with 1080p and 1440p and also my gpu tweak settings. I just want to make sure this is safe to run in games and that nothing looks weird.

Thanks!20220124_175649.thumb.jpg.a3ad6c6812c4548851c184a59048965e.jpg20220124_181707.thumb.jpg.0cc2f01c5c2336d81918bf74eb4f79d4.jpg16430663947933759222112839698051.thumb.jpg.e8ae2e60ae42ab536ee75da7903816b4.jpg

Have you ever done any maintenance on this loop? After so many years it's really time to flush it and add new coolant + redo the thermal paste on the gpu and cpu.

I flush the system once per year. The gpu I've never changed the thermal compound because I'm not sure how. Not sure if you've seen the poseidon card,, but It's not a custom water block, it's the one asus had stock. It can be water or air or both. I run it with both.

Cpu I replaced thermal compound 2 years ago.

Might be time to change the thermal paste on the card

Oh yeah for sure replace that thermal compound. The poseidon is not too hard of a card to disassemble since it's basically only attached on the back and if I remember correctly one screw into the io plate.

How often does the thermal paste need to be changed? Does that mean thermal pads too or just paste? This is a bit over my head haha.

So I take it that means running 67-68C in heaven is bad?

Paste around 3-5 years. Sudden increase in temps without you changing anything? Yeah paste gone dried up. For a poseidon on air AND water yeah thats high. Any other 1080ti that would be pretty low.

I'm pretty nervous about the thermal compound because I can't afford a new card if I mess up hahah. Any recommendations on thermal compound for gpu? What's the best one, I'd rather not put a cheap one on it if I'm going to attempt it.

And what about the overclock I'm running? Is that considered good, and is it safe to run all the time like that with games and such?

It is very good.

Here is my old EVGA 1080 ti SC2 with an i7 8086k at 5ghz. Heaven uses only one CPU thread so it is good test of core strength.

Thanks! I want to get more into it. I have just been playing around with it. It's way easier to hit higher scores with the poseidon I guess since it has liquid cooling with 2 fans as well. I took off my side cover and front mesh and now its going at about 59-60C so I think a case that breathes more will help my Temps too. But I was hoping for more like 50 with liquid cooling.

Managed to get a bit better with the side panels off score wise at 1440p 20220124_213602.thumb.jpg.11a85d16e1edf668dbf0948c6f0c9602.jpgas well.

50c on a poseidon with a 240mm rad is easily doable even with a good oc. It's also the old paste holding you back here. Same issue on my vega 64 rn it's been steadily going up bit by bit over the last 4 months and I know it's the paste since nothing else changed and my cpu is the same as ever.

It is not that it is a water cooled card.

I had 3 EVGA SCs and they performed exactly the same.

You have better silicon.
