I have a few features that I'm specifically looking for. I need an application that will backup selected folders to another drive. With these selected folders, I would like it to be able to notice changes in the folder, such as adding new files/folder, and make that change as well to the backup location. For example: Lets say I have My Music backed up. If I add a folder for U2, the backup software will also copy that folder to the backup. I'm basically looking for software that could automate what I would do if I were just making a manual backup of a folder. I don't want to have to copy folders to two locations each time I save something. If only I had a raid setup :(

If you're using Windows 7, Windows Backup should do just fine.

But doesn't Windows Backup just create an image of the folders, resulting in multiple backup images in the backup folder?

You can set it to only keep the most recent one. I did because my backup partition was getting way too full.

You should check out Synctoy made by Microsoft, I use it but it's not fully automated out of the box, I set the 2 folders for it to watch, dubbed be left and right, when I know when I've changed something I start Synctoy and hit 'run' an it does the rest, extremely easy, I prefer this semi automatic way, but you can make it fully automatic (say sync every hour ect) by using the Task Scheduler

If you use Windows 8, check out File History. It does exactly what you want. It does hourly backup by default, but you can change the time to every minute to several hours.

I am using it, and it's awesome. Yes, there is no problem if you re-install Windows. Your backup is on a network computer, or external or different internal drive, you pick. And once you re-install Windows, a click of button, will make Windows re-detect everything and resume backup operation.
