Have integrated graphics run second monitor and GPU run main monitor?

Hey y'all,

   So not sure if this is the right place to post this so if it is not please let me know.

 

So i was wondering if it would be possible to setup the display outputs so that the integrated graphics in my CPU (17-10700k) could run my second monitor (720p @60hz), and have a graphics card run my main monitor (1080p @144hz)? I am not sure if this would work or how but it is an interesting idea.

It will work but there is no benefit to it

Works fine. I did that for years in the early Gsync days to run my secondary 60hz display. They both didn’t play nice on my main GPU.

*not always, but most of the time yea

some motherboards have issues with enabling iGPU if you have dGPU, personally i've no issues with doing what you described

sometimes you just need that one extra HDMI port that 99% of the GPU only comes with ONE

I want to try this because I will sometimes play a high end game while watching 4k YouTube on a second screen, and the YouTube takes up 5-10% of my 1070, which could be used for a couple more frames. Forza 5 for example sits at 50-55 FPS so I wonder if I could hit 60 stable if I could get Chrome to only use the integrated (6700K). On a laptop with both you can simply allocate apps to different GPUs, but it doesn't seem to be an option for me. Do I need to plug the second monitor into the motherboard video out?

I've done it on every rig aside from the one I just made. Doesnt hurt anything as its just sitting unused anyway.
