Hi,

Wasn't sure this was the appropriate part of the forums to put this but here we are.

I have just purchased the Archer C6 router which will make my Hub 3.0 a modem reason for this was every time someone downloaded anything in the house no other devices could really use the internet (Wireless and Connected) (even browsing) and it has no settings at all so I couldn't enable or disable any functions to fix the issue. We often download almost daily games and such so having no lag whilst that happens would save a lot of complaining.

I need to know about what settings to enable/disable as this will have around 10 devices connected to it either ethernet or wireless and my household have around 5 people at one time online gaming/streaming and overall web browsing.

I heard something about Mimo and Qos I just can't figure out what to enable and disable and what they do to help my current issue.

As you can tell I'm not at all experienced with this so easy to understand bases would be great.

Any help will be appreciated.

Edit: I also just found out for some reason QoS needs to be disabled in order to enable NAT Boost to fully deliver its max outputs (900mb/s) from each port on the C6 router, Not sure if a firmware fix resolved this.

  1. Run a test using this tool: Bufferbloat Test by Waveform
  2. Go to Advanced > QoS
  3. Click NAT Boost
  4. Uncheck Enable NAT Boost and click Save
  5. Check Enable QoS
  6. Multiply the upload and download bandwidths by 85%, enter them, and click Save
  7. Run the test again

You should now get an A+. Feel free to tweak the bandwidths to maximize your speed.

The reason why NAT Boost needs to be disabled is because the SoC is not capable of offloading QoS. As a result, your combined download and upload throughput will be limited by the CPU.

Most likely a CPU issue, as in not enough CPU horsepower. Keep in mind that many routers use lower end CPU's. So there are limitations on what they can do. In some cases certain features cant be used together and such. ALSO if you have Gigabit Internet you shouldn't need to use QoS, in my opinion QoS is for people who have very shit connections, I have 300/10 from my provider and dont have any reasons to use QoS due to the connection supported what we do.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
