I just unplugged my PC on accident while it was running and I know it's bad, but how bad.

Only downsides and weird things that has happened is windows store was pinned to taskbar, went through a lot of Windows updates, and lost hours of code I wrote (didn't save, so duhh I'm going to loss it).

Thanks!

wat.

Unplugging your pc isn't the end of the world, but if you were in the middle of an update it might have messed thing up a little.

Those "weird things" are part of Windows 8.1 Update 1.

Congratulations! :D But losing all that code sucks. Maybe get a UPS if it's that serious?

Doing so can lead to a loss of data (or all your data) and it isn't healthy for the PSU.

But if it turns back on, I would just run the Check Disk and afterwards, if everything works fine then just stop sweating it.

It's not deathly bad for the PC, but alas, never recommended either, lol. So you're fine, just make sure you don't make it a habit. Sorry that you lost hours of work, though! That always stings. Especially tedious work like coding and programming.

1. I know, but the OP would probably think twice before unplugging something from a large grey/black box as it is unmistakable.

2. Lots of cables, some of them 3-prong.

Straight power off isn't so dangerous on modern pc as it has been with older ones. It can lead to data loss but pretty much only for unsaved data. If you are using usb stick as storage then it will mean complete data loss (I've had this) on what you are working on. During updates can be bad but it also usually lead them to give failed warning and redo whole thing. If not, there's always restore.
