European build @ 3k€

Budget (including currency): 3000 €

Country: France

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: obs, AAAA games (Doom eternal for reference, but also less consuming games such as Planet Zoo), retrogaming & emulation (scummvm, Ms dos oldies & consoles of course)

Other details: I'd like to add the following accessories :stream deck, dual screen, screen arm, headset with mic, capture card for consoles...

Budget can go up to 3k (without accessories that I can buy later)

Thanks for helping, I'm very lost after years not following the tech industry close enough.

Hard time right now for choices...

Due to the 12th intel gen CPUs needing Windows 11, and both are still in their early stages well I personally didn't go that road. (just build a new machine myself)

I would go for AMD this time, a X570 Motherboard like the Taichi from Asrock for example, then either a 5800X or 5900x, I went with a 5800X.

Then at least 32 gb ram, 16 is nice, but when running for example bluestacks, it takes a chunk. Here try to get at least DDR4 3600 in dual channel mode.

As a gfx card ... well you are so out of luck right now. But I would suggest a RTX3070, I kept my 1060 from the previous machine...

As for drives... well NVME. Here the "sky" is the limit... I went with a Crucial P2 tb and a P5 with 5 tb... yes not GEN4 or balls to the wall speed, but then I tell myself it is ok if it loads in 5 seconds instead of 4.5 ...

My whole system with everything new but the gfx card and peripherials/monitors is roughly 1500€ ...

X570 Taichi

5800X

the two SSD

32 GB Ram DDR3 3600

Bigtower case with noise dampening and airfiltering Fractal Design Define XL R2

Be Quiet Dark Rock TF2 as CPU Cooler

Cooler Master V850 Platinum PSU

With that there would be around 1.5k left for a gfx card and or peripherials...

I got all that stuff from alternate here in germany... I think they got a french site as well...

What do I do with my system... well streaming to youtube with OBS, mostly mobile games... like 7DS Grand Cross... in bluestacks emulator, today 2 at the same time... went quite nicely... even with the older gtx 1060. But for AAA+ Titles the 1060 is a little underpowered... I just played though CONTROL in high/ultra DX11 settings... went smoothly.

So I hope this helped a little...

Cheers

Ang

@Anghammarad first of all thanks for your reply, really appreciate it. I'll have a look at the components you suggest. There's one detail I forgot to mention : streaming via wifi : is that an option or should I go full wired?

the taichi has wifi build in... I did the setup using that, due to all the parts arriving in a timeframe of over 3 weeks... the last to arrive was the tower case.

Usually I would go wired, as I'm on right now... Wifi is a shared medium, so as long as it is like here with 20+ Wifi networks around, being wired is the best option. The more wifi networks in the wincity, the worse it gets.

If you don't have that many wifi networks in your vincity, you could go that route, for the Wife Acceptance factors for less cables in the home =)

I'll take the easy (and ugly) wired road then, living alone there's no one to bother with my home interior aesthetics 😊

There, 1.1k€ but 5900x + 32gb ram instead of wasting all the money on f ing rainbows and x570 boards

Ballistix is slow on specs w only 3000 cl15 but its the dies that matter and the micron dies that come with ballistix usually do 4000+ with ease, no point desyncing fclk and ram speed unless you somehow get 4800+ working which is impossible unless you got a better ram oc board and active cooling, so stick to 4000mhz or as high as the cpu fclk will go then tighten the timings, use 1.5v max unless you put a fan over the rams, if you just want a quick oc then just set like 1.4-1.45 and raise the speed till its unstable

Rest of the build is literally just the cheapest sht i could find that is still decent quality so managed to fit a 2tb ssd, psu is only 750w, 5900x, and 32gb ballistix ram

There is an extremely shortage of GPUs today (and prices are also very high in some places) so I would actually suggest you start looking for a GPU before you buy anything else.

I would suggest RTX 3070 or better.

With todays GPU shortage it doesn't really matter if it is a GPU from ASUS, MSI, GIGABYTE, EVGA etc..

Just buy what every you can find for a decent price.

This is better then this (https://fr.pcpartpicker.com/list/FVDFW3) because:

1) The RAM is faster and the cooler is better

2) The SSD is a Gen4, but it’s only 250 GB.

The GPU is good, a little more VRAM but sometimes it’s behind the 3080.

Regarding the shortage, what's the "normal" / decent gpu price? I mean, how much should I buy a 3070 if we were 2/3 years ago? Thanks for helping

When Nvidia launched the RTX 3000 series in September 2020 they also announced the MSRP of these GPUs.

(MSRP: Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price)

The MSRP given by Nvidia are always without any VAT.

RTX 3070  499usd

RTX 3070ti  599usd

RTX 3080  699usd

RTX 3080ti  1199usd

RTX 3090  1499usd

I was very lucky and bought my RTX 3080 in October 2020 for 790eur (price without Swedish VAT would be 630eur).

Is there a difference between Swedish and French VAT ?

It is very hard to say what is "normal" these days.

I have heard of people buying GPUs for double the MSRP.

If you can find a RTX 3070 (or any other GPU) for 20-40% over MSRP then go for it.

I hope you can find a GPU for a good price but it will probably require time, effort and patience.

I am in Italy, and here VAT is 22% of the price. In France should be 20% of the price.

Vat here is 20%. My jaw dropped reading your awesome answer.

I'll have to look into this very seriously, there's no way I pay a gpu 200%. Thanks
