my new pc freezes/gives me a black screen and i dont know why

dead by death
Go to solution Solved by Universes,

Without a lot more troubleshooting, with a lot of spare parts, I'm not sure how else to help you. My next suggestion would be to use a dedicated GPU and see if the 5700G's integrated GPU is the problem.

  • All your power cables are plugged in, and correctly?
  • CPU temperatures are fine when running games?
  • The RAM is in the correct slots, for dual channel operation?
  • What speed is the RAM?

as the title says then my computer screen sometimes freezes then turns black. i become unable to use it for like 20 seconds. rarely some visual glitches happen for like half a second. i can use it again after it happens. it usualy happens when i launch cs:go, minecraft ,etc. this is my first pc build so something might have gone wrong tho everything else is working fine

my os is windows pro 64 bit

my parts/specs are:

cpu/gpu: AMD Ryzen 7 5700G

ram: g skill ripjaws v ddr4 16gb

motherboard: gigabyte b550 gaming x v2

psu:seasonic 750w

my motherboard bios version is f14e (not sure)

i think i have the latest drivers (not sure)

i hope i did this correctly and let me know if i should send more info

It sounds like either defective hardware (bad GPU), or too much heat or not enough power when the CPU/GPU is under load. I don't think it's the latter based on the parts you have and the type of load you're putting on it.

  • What kind of visual glitches are there?
  • Are you using the integrated GPU on the 5700G?
  • What CPU cooler are you using?
  • Check your drivers and BIOS again. If you have F14e, that is the latest BIOS so there should be no problems there.

i think i solved the problem by increasing the vram in the bios from 512mb to 2gb

That sounds like the problem. If it is the VRAM, what is happening is that when a graphic intense application is run, the iGPU runs out of VRAM and needs to keep creating graphics but with only 512mbs of VRAM at a time. Imagine trying to fill your bathtub with water using a small cup. You would need to keep emptying and refilling the cup. When you are refilling the cup, nothing can be put into the bathtub (no graphics are displayed).

Glad you figured it out. Cheers!
