So I built a pc and it's connected to my TV. I want it to be like an all-in-one media center that can play games, stream movies, and play dvds. The only issue is that I don't have a case with a 5.25 inch drive bay. But then I had an idea. My case (Corsair 4000D airflow) has a vertical gpu mounting thing Is there any way I can maybe use that as a 5.25 inch drive bay? or just use my regular pcie slots instead of the vertical one to mount the drive bay?, if i cut some of the metal on the pcie slots, might i be able to mount a 5.25 inch drive bay? I don't want to use an external disk drive; if i have to go that route i would just use my old blu-ray player. I don't really know a lot about case modding, so any advice is appreciated.

Iirc that’s called a media center PC.

What about just buying an external usb 5.25” enclosure and filling it with a DVD drive of some type?  They may even be sold already filled so all you’d have to do is plug it in.  My memory is blu-ray has wild amounts of DRM to the point that while it is possible to set up on any machine, it’s such a PITA that if you want it to work you more or less need to buy a prebuilt that already has it going.   There may be external USB enclosures meant for this.  They will come with software.  There were at one point several devices like this.  The were not cheap.  I don’t know what if anything is still around though.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

@Bombastinator @thrasher_565 did you miss where he specifically said he doesn't want external?

@astralp3gasus Modding is very open ended. It's only limited by your skills. I'd grab a laptop drive and try to fit that. They are much slimmer and have a higher chance of fitting.

Oh no, you were right.  He said he didn’t want to go external and I missed it.  He might have meant just having a bare drive with sata cables snaking out of the case, but he did say it and I did miss it.

ya there was esata...back in the day... but i see alot of these posts and rarely do they give in to other options. like new case, mod, or external or move on to usb...

but there was one guy that did just that and put a dvd drive in the hdd of the 011...so he showed me up... ya i remember you... was a good job too...

Esata was a weird thing. Just a port change.  No data change at all.   Seemed kinda pointless.   A lot of people just ignored it and used sata for external things anyway.

still have not used thunder bult or or usb type c thow people complane all the time about not have one... but im a bit old school i guess i still use an mp3 player...

Thunderbolt is really cool.  I think of USBC as microUSB2 that doesn’t break all the time. MicroUSB2 actually drove me to wireless charging for everything I could do it on and this sort of MagSafe hackery thing for when I couldn’t it was so bad. The raw bandwidth of thunderbolt is crazy.
