Hi everyone,

does anybody here have experience with the current Philips OLED TVs?

I am currently in the process of buying a new TV and I am stuck between Sonys A90J and the Philips OLED806.

I have been reading a bit, but I can't really make up my mind.

I am a sucker for the Ambilight but the Sony has the better picture.

So all in all I would really appreciate your input on this

You can strap in an RGB light but you cant strap in better image quality. Get the Sony.

I'd not get any of these. The Sony A80J or LG C1 will deliver about the same picture quality but for siginificantly lower prices. Plus the LG offers significantly more features and versatility compared to other options. For example more HDMI 2.1 ports, VRR, etc...

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

As @SorryClairepointed out, you can easily add RGB. I use this kit with my LG C1, and it's fantastic.

Thank you all for your input and your response times are insane guys 🙂

@Chris Pratt the camera seems a bit big though - do you still notice it while using the TV?

But I didn't know that this existed with a camera I only knew about the ones utilizing a HDMI Matrix and that wouldn't work with the built in Apps as far as I am aware

@Stahlmann I didn't want to go LG because I think Android TV works better for me than LGs Web OS (mostly because of the App availabilities) and I don't really care about VRR as I don't plan to game on it. My gaming PC is in another room and I don't play on consoles same with the HDMI 2.1. I plan to use a Denon AVR-X1600H DAB and I would plug in every device on this device and not on the TV

But you are right about the A80J delivering more value.

I will need to think about it current prices in my region:

A90J: 2.5k

A80J: 1.7k

For that price difference i'd go for the A80J. The slightly lower brightness will not be noticeable in real world use. And other than that the A90J doesn't really offer that much.

It's not that noticable, and you can do top or bottom. I've got mine at the bottom. There's also a lot of people that have gotten really creative with the placement online. I saw a video where one guy put it in a little box with black rocks around it in front of the TV. Looked pretty nice and completely stealth. All the HDMI solutions are pretty universally terrible, but the camera works great.

I'd presonally stay away from ambient light solutions. Not just because i subjectively dislike them, but also because they go against what HDR is all about. HDR content is ideally watched in a dark or dimmly lit room. If you introduce ambient light to a display that is otherwise capable of perfect black - such as OLED - then you inevitably crush shadow details.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

It's bias lighting. It has no direct impact on lighting the screen any more than any other indirect light source would. Compared to watching in a dungeon with no light source other than the TV, maybe there's a difference, but otherwise it's fine.

"Dungeon" is the ideal setting for watching HDR content because then the content alone is what determines the dynamic range your eyes adjust to. But i get not everyone wants to watch movies in an otherwise pitch black room.

if im not mistaken Vincent has reviewed it.

Also the A90J

Unfortunately while rtings does have the A90J reviewed, they do not review Phillips displays often/at all, so no comparison there.

So do consider what Vincent has to say, he knows what to look for and does a full battery of tests.

he also has the A80J, and the Lg OLEDs reviewed, so u can watch those aswell if interested. Also has some comparison / side by side videos that might be helpfull.
