Hi all,

I recently discovered a problem that I am running into with my dell laptop. On idle I'm getting between 50-60% RAM usage when it shows threes nothing running, and with google chrome open it will be upwards of 70% RAM usage. I have 8GB of RAM so there's no way it should be anywhere near these numbers.

I've tried a few solutions on Youtube but none of them have fixed it. Any guesses?

Start by uninstalling all the bloatware that Dell puts on the system.

Then start killing off Services that don't need to be running (assuming you are running win10, try something like Shutup10) and add ore ram, 8GB is barely adequate for win10 these days

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

Yeah, I agree with him ^.  8 is just not enough; and that limitation makes bloatware that much more constricting.  Those numbers are fairly low, all things considered.  I have days when my browser alone is chewing up more memory than your entire system has.

Actually, 8GB is pretty paltry for modern standards.

That aside, check to see if you're actually paging to your drive. If you're not, then it's fine. Windows optimizes RAM usage by keeping things in memory as a cache. If there's actual memory pressure, it will remove those things, but essentially the utilization number is pretty meaningless, as long as you're below you're total capacity.

Make sure that windows is up to date also, I once has 100% usage on my RAM, all I had to do was update windows and it was fixed

Windows 10 with Chrome opened easily eat >4GB of system memory. Check the performance tab to see how many of it was cached.

That sounds about normal depending the level of bloatware that came with your system.

Here is my work laptop at idle, but with all it's stupid extra stuff in the background. IE, SCCM, Antivirus, etc.
