If I connect a USB 2.0 header to a usb 3.0 to 3.1 splitter and connect the that to my front panel 3.1, am I going to blow something up. I know it wont be very fast, but would it work?

 

So it would be something like Motherboard 2.0 header connected to a product like this connected to something like this connected to my front panel 3.1 type c header.

 

Basically, my motherboard only has one 3.0 header, and no 3.1 header, and I want to use my 3.1 port in the front.

Don't see a reason why it wouldn't work, USB is pretty good about being forwards and backwards compatible with stuff. The only exception to that would be if devices require a certain amount of power that only the higher USB revisions can provide, but that's not exactly common and most stuff on your system should still function OK.

Beside the obvious bandwidth reduction when going from 3.0 to 2.0, you should also keep in mind that 3.0 by specification must deliver 0.9A while 2.0 only has to deliver 0.5A at 5V. Forget about charging your phone from that port heh.
