Laptop power issues

My laptop wouldn’t charge so I took it apart, and the laptop will charge around 70% of the time when it’s just the motherboard removed from the case, but it will never charge when I put the motherboard and battery back inside the laptop case. The 30% failure rate outside the case and always inside the case, I’m fairly certain is because of a power shortage. Any suggestions?

Is the battery puffy? That can be very bad.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.
