I dont think so, some companies just shouldnt make certain products. Maybe if they made some monitors yeah sure.

Example to my point above, do you feel like Gigabyte making keyboards and mice is a natural thing? it isnt to me, it gives me a feeling of oem manufacturing which turns me off products.

I see your point but sony really has a lot of potential to make haedsets and monitors and who uses a soudcard those things are useless most of the time.

I think Sony likes to stick to very mainstream devices eg. Laptops, TVs, consoles, speaker systems, headphones cameras.

They do make small unimportant devices like some gadgets and stuff, but yeah... Computer tech is just not their field.

I guess they could get into the same market segment as logitech with some cheap headsets but afaik they dont have a line of products with microphones they could use. The best is the mics with phone headphones which arent up to scratch.

Monitors are the best, people would go for a Sony monitor based off of the brand alone.

Back in the CRT days sony made some excellent Monitors. Their Trinitron lineup was pretty much considered the best consumer CRTs out there, aside from maybe the NEC DiamondTron (which was very comparable). They both used the Aperture Grille approach (as opposed to Shadow Mask) which offered far less distortion at the edges of the screen.

I imagine they still make LCD monitors, but I don't believe they manufacture actual panels (as there are only a small handful of actual panel manufacturers).

I personally don't think Sony should bother with computer peripherals, except for maybe very high end. The reason I think they should keep out is because the peripheral market has very small margins, and Sony is already scrapped for cash (they haven't really performed that well financially as a whole company in a long long time). In the high end market though, there's a lot more room for profit margins. They of course make a wide range of headphones, from the very low budget - cheapo P.O.S. - to the high end, and they make various other peripherals, but are not widely known in the West for any peripherals aside from headphones.

Also, I don't really see what they could bring to the mouse/keyboard, etc, markets, that hasn't already been done cheaper or better. However, they could prove me wrong and come out with some new killer peripheral.

No idea but i think Microsoft should make gaming peripherals it would help backup all their talk about their focus on gaming for windows.

I wish I still had my 14" Trinitron.  Good times.

I nearly bought a Gigabyte mouse, the one I used was pretty good

A lot of companies have expanded their markets over the last few years. Considering that Coolermaster and Thermaltake went on to expand into CM Storm and Tt eSports branded peripherals, I would think Sony branded screens and "gaming headsets" wouldn't be too far out of the question. There's certainly a market for it, but considering the choices we have now in monitors (Between I would say Asus, BenQ, Acer, Dell, Samsgun, LG and Viewsonic), their entry into the market would need to be solid, otherwise it would be a business move that would cost them too much for too little gain

I think Sony could do a lot more, like just make some Win8 or Linux drives for PS3/PS4 accessories would be cool, I know mods and hacks are made pretty dam quick for these accessories but having official support would be nice. So its gets my vote.

I mean if they make components and peripherals that are actually good and competitive why not? More competition and choices is always great for a consumer. If Sony was to make stuff that sucked then I would just ignore it, but if they want to take the time to deliver a quality product, then I would consider it.

Pretty sure I've seen Sony mice before, just didn't look very comfortable. They seemed to be more focused on making them look good next to a vaio laptop.

Don't really see them doing a mechanical keyboard, but who knows. Maybe they could bring something new to the table.

Well if thay do that then the devices will be more expensive and wont be intagrated properly with the components but the costom O.S. is the best bet

True but if sony comes out with momitors that use the same almost the same tech in their tv's like triluminus then that will be great plus sony has experience in hardweare besides more compotition is better for the consumer

They make surface tablets and have a huge range of keyboards/mice including the Sidewinder X6 (gaming keyboard) and Sidewinder X8 (gaming mouse)  and the discontinued X3, X5 and X8. There also had the Microsoft Habu which was the original Deathadder. They also of course made the Xbox, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Kinect, Xbox controller and several gamepads.

I agree that their strength is software but they make good hardware and i'd like to see more attention to gaming peripherals from them.

This exactly. If they release high-quality products at an aggressive price, then one would argue that it could only be a good thing. A monitor with a decent panel, lower response time than TVs, at an affordable price, hell, I'd be tempted to buy one, replace my ASUS monitor

I think it's safe to say, based on the other news item (Sony selling it's shares in SquareEnix, and bleeding money like a rich guy getting mugged in a ghetto), that Sony isn't really in a position to start expanding into new markets or creating new products like a wide range of computer peripherals. They're selling off assets to keep themselves afloat. They really don't have the money to invest in new market segments right now, and I doubt they could secure the necessary investments/loans to do so. They need to tighten up their current management and financing and start to level out before they can start spending lots of money to get into new products.
