CPU Temperature Incredibly Low

Go to solution Solved by sirtoby,

Coretemp seems to read wrong values. Maybe try another program. Generally speaking, it's impossible to get the temps lower than ambient, unless you use liquid helium or something simillar

Hey everyone,  :)

Just put together a rig with the following specs:

Mobo: ASUS M5A97 R2.0

CPU: FX 6300

CPU Cooler: Hyper 212 EVO (push only)

Graphics Card: XFX R9 270 (Core edition, not Double Dissipation)

PSU: XFX TS 550W

Case: Zalman Z9 Plus (4 fans, two intake two exhaust)

I've downloaded CoreTemp 1.0 and wanted to see what my CPU temperature was looking like. To my surprise, at idle it'll consistently sit at 11 C.

WUT???

I've never heard of temperatures this low. I'm thinking that this may be a faulty temperature sensor or something, because the room temp is about 24 C. Any thoughts?

Molex to SATA, lose all your data

It looks to me like it's the software.

Download HWMonitor. Test your temps with that and see if there are any changes. I doubt the temps are that low on that CPU... Is it possible? Slight chance, yes. But I doubt it, so test it and get back to us!

Here's the link: http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html

And if you don't already, another program you should grab from CPUID is CPU-Z.

EDIT:

Lol, read what I said above. Within 2 minutes of you posting that, haha.

Yeah, I figured as much Mau5.

Glad you got it figured out.

Sorry, forgot to add that it's the CPU (FX 6300) at 11 C...

lol It could be the temperature sensors. Try HWMonitor and looking at the motherboard temps sensors.

Edit: LOL Trust the motherboard readings, not the CPU sensors.

Lol, did you read this thread? My post right above yours - I already told him to grab this program.

And, his post above mine, he already said he got it squared away and posted a picture of his temps with HWMonitor.

Thanks for telling me.

For the record to patch up some confusion in this thread. AMD doesn't implement sensors for each core. Its one of them cost effective things AMD did to shave off a little bit on production costs. Instead they add a single sensor to the package. It pulls the highest temperature from the registers to determine the overall CPU temperature. You can use software like ADIA Extreme to find accurate AMD CPU temperatures. There is a number calculation that software must do to determine the actual temperature. Most software wasn't updated with the release of Vishera. This is why most CPU temperature monitoring software is reading rediculous numbers like 11C.
