Speaker setup with no sub

Hi all

 

I'm on the lookout for a set of speakers to add to my working setup in order to listen to some music. The setup does not allow me to have a sub installed unless it is something really slim that I can hide behind the desk. I was thinking maybe of the Bose companion 2 or 20, however any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Space is a bit f an issue and hence these need to be relatively small

Powered monitors at a specific size won't need a sub to produce balanced accurate bass or mid-bass.

There are a lot of options outlined in that thread at your price point.  I went with 5" Mackie CR5BT's that produce great sound and very decent bass.  So much so I didn't think twice about kicking my 5.1 system to the curb.

 

I'd look at any 5"+ Powered Monitor.  7" may be too large, depending on your desk size.  You should be very happy under 200 euros, IMO.

Really depends on how much space you have. Bose Companions are really impressive for what they are in such a small package but they’re no match for bookshelf speakers if you have the space.

 

For what it’s worth, I tried both the Bose Companion 2 series III and the Creative T100 and settled on the Creative model because I preferred their sound signature. Those two models are pretty much the only widely available compact computer speakers that reproduce sub bass. That said, the sub bass is achieved through resonance chamber trickery and doesn’t compare to a full size bookshelf speaker.
