Any tips for newbies?

ViruzMage

Hello! I am a newer person to the PC community. I have pretty general knowledge and wish to know more. One I would like to know is where I can buy a GPU for MSRP. I am not having any trouble finding any other parts for MSRP. If any veterans have tips for newbies in general please let me know!

Take the EVGA queue system, or maybe microcenter.

AMD Direct has been good in the past for getting a GPU for true MSRP if you're fine with going AMD, but they changed their system up to a random queue and you're required to get lucky to get one. Your best bet if you really need an MSRP GPU is to go into those Discord bots and hope for the best, but don't expect to pay $700 for a 3080, those advertised MSRP numbers don't really exist anymore outside of FE and reference cards, and those are the hardest ones to get by far.

Thank you for this! I'm not going for anything crazy regarding the 3080 and 3060. I'm honestly just looking for one in general with my only requirement being that its pretty decent.

Even most 3060s are still around $500, give or take. I was mainly saying that as to show that the price advertised back in September 2020 doesn't exist, and arguably never did. My 3080, for example, cost me $840 back in March, and it was the cheapest 3080 available at Micro Center with some 3080s costing over $1100. Prices have gone up across the board, so expect to pay $200-300 more than what you thought you were going to otherwise.

The page in the screenshot is outdated.

Mhm! Thank you for the tips. I honestly don't mind paying $200-$300 extra for a good graphics card (rather than paying less than that for a terrible one). I just would prefer to have one at MSRP. I am finding like the 20 series costing just as much as the 30 series (pre-shortage).

Nevermind,

Americans switch the numbers of month and date is confusing.

Ah, I see. I'm American and I don't even know which version it is sometimes. Most people in my country are just stubborn. Also, you are completely fine!

Every day (normally 11am EST) there's a 2 hour window where NewEgg launches a handful of cards/bundles that you can select as a potential want. Approximately 6-8 hours later they do a "drawing" like a raffle, and will send emails out to the winner of that particular card/bundle.

You have 2 hours after receiving notification that you were selected as a winner to purchase the item. Otherwise it's forfeit and put into a future shuffle again.

Thank you! I will be sure to use this to get my GPU (whenever I buy one).

Good luck, I've been entering the shuffle daily for months and have not had any luck. (I was actually selected once but was not able to order it within the 2 hour timeframe sadly)

It doesn't hurt to enter and try!

Yes, although I would like to know if they do phone number reminders. Do they?

What is your definition of "pretty decent"?  Are you planning on gaming?  CAD? Web browsing?  I've got a GTX750ti which is enough for light gaming and some research work, those you can get on the used market pretty cheap right about now (although nvidia has officially stopped supporting them).  If you aren't planning to do gaming so much as technical work, you might consider looking at Quadro GPUs as you might have better luck finding those; they're just not very good for gaming/mining/etc.

If I have to explain every detail, I won't talk to you.  If you answer a question with what can be found through 10 seconds of googling, you've contributed nothing, as I assure you I've already considered it.

What a world we would be living in if I had to post several paragraphs every time I ask a question.

I don't believe so, you can check but I think they are just email reminders.
