My wife and I just purchased our first new house and we are looking to buy a 75in tv for our home theater. This will be the first new tv we have purchased in the last 10ish years. Here’s my issue.  I have no clue what the difference between LED, OLED, Ultra HD, Nano Cell, QLED, Crystal LED, etc is. I have a $1500 budget and I know we want a 4K smart flat screen.  Has to have good viewing angles. Can anyone help me out?  We generally buy LG and Samsung so we’d like to stick with one of the 2.

Go to a Best Buy or some big box store to look at TV's in person. This one I'd recommend if you could shell out a little bit more cash, however, sticking with a $1500 budget for a 75" flat screen is kinda tricky since you want to stick those brands (understandably).

We looked at several at BJ’s wholesale, Best Buy and Walmart yesterday. There were several Samsung and LG models in our price range. The Nano Cell looked the best to me but it was the only one that was over our budget. Honestly, all the different types that I listed had great displays on them. That’s why I’m trying to figure out which is best. I have researched some of them and it seems some people say one is better and then someone else says another is better. Was hoping to get some first hand opinions here.

edit, didn’t see the link at first. That isn’t too far out of my price range. Why the QLED?  Just curious.

So the Nano Cell is a IPS display, thus awesome viewing angles, but the unfortunate reality about IPS is the poor black performance. QLED's IMO are a better choice for a dark room over IPS.

Ok, now that’s some info I can work with. We looked at a couple of really nice LG QLED’s. I don’t mind spending a bit more to get a better picture, especially for dark viewing.  I’m assuming QLED is better than OLED?

LG (to my knowledge) doesn't make 'QLED', that's nomenclature is Samsung's. However, OLED > everything else.

Maybe it was OLED that I saw with the LG’s.  Too many different display options. I have my wife looking at Samsung QLED tv’s now. Might have to go look in person again. I appreciate the info!

yea lg's nano (ips) you NEED one light on in the room, doesnt even have to be bright or you can tell blacks arnt black. but colors are awesome (75" nano90 owner)
lg's oled are to me perfect tvs. outside of very bright rooms. but picture is gorgeous.
samsungs qled are if you have a bright room. great picture but oled has better colors

I am still cautious about oled and burn in. If you plan on doing any gaming, it's something to be wary about.

they have updated oled with good mitigations. youd have to keep a static image for a hell of a long time (were talking months). and even then lgs mitigation (pixel shift i think it is) still helps a lot

yea and? and i see he complained about the cx, ok he can be a one off like the other guy. i know 9 others with cx and c9's that game every day and its their comp screen, and none show image retention since buying them new when they came out.

i was one like you that was worried about it. but not any more

I think QLED is probably what you want.  Nano LED is gonna break the bank, and OLED is still a crapshoot on whether your use habits + panel chosen will = burn in.

Ignore "smart" options.  You can always use a dongle > HDMI to get an interface that doesn't suck.

Brand loyalty isn't your friend.  Samsung & LG make decent products, don't get me wrong.  It's just that brand loyalty can sometimes hamper you.  Imagine if I was loyal to Mitsubishi big-screen TV's....
