that if I don't but the module, the front USB 3.2 Gen 2 port is completely useless?

USB ports of a case actually don't have a specific version. Or rather, they have whatever version of internal USB header they get attached to. As long as your motherboard has a compatible header, you can use them.

The overview advertises a "1 x USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C® Front Panel Connector", while the specs mention "1 x USB 3.2 Gen 1 header(s) support(s) additional 2 USB 3.2 Gen 1 ports", so I'm not 100% certain if it is actually a Gen 1 or Gen 2 port…

But as far as I can see, this is a 40-pin USB 3.1 internal header. So as long as the front panel has such a plug, you should be able to use it. The front panel will then have USB 3.2 Gen 1 (or 2), whatever the internal header actually is.

~edit: And I agree with @Kilrah, the front panel is "the module". They're basically saying "we have this USB header, but you can't use it without attaching it to something (i.e. a compatible front panel)"

I'm sure I'm not the first to encounter this, but I see this note on some motherboard manuals "The USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C Module is purchased separately." Where can I buy such a module? I keep seeing stuff on Amazon and others but I'm not sure if it's the right thing. Often the stuff I find are USB 3.1, not 3.2. I'm not even sure what the thing looks like.

Does it also mean, that if I don't but the module, the front USB 3.2 Gen 2 port is completely useless? For the record I'm looking at the ProArt X570-Creator WiFi (with TB4).

Cheers,

Looking at the manual it's just "whatever you'd connect to these plugs isn't included with the mobo", which is normal since they'd be case ports that are built into the case.

Makes sense. Yeah I should've thought of that. Thanks!
