10th gen Intel on z590 boards?

So I was looking into using a 10th gen chip on a z590 board and saw on PC part picker that some ..2 drives would be disabled. Is this true? If so why I only ask because there's a board I'm looking at that's very affordable and has everything I want and the 10700k is $270 at microcenter lol

What board and what comment?  The  only way I know 2 drives can be disabled is when you plug in an NVMe drive and the SATA ports that share the lanes are disabled,

 

I don;t know of a previous gen chip causing that issue.

The 10th gen CPUs have 4 fewer PCIe lanes, so some 500 series boards disable the top M.2 slot if 10th gen is installed.

Oh sorry! I'm on my phone and misclicked. It says that one of the m.2 slots will be disabled if a rocket lake CPU isn't used.  The z590 aorus elite ax

That makes sense in lieu of what was said above.  I had read is as 2 drives being disabled and that was a bit much for a few lanes.  Makes sense now.

Correct, the main m.2 slot on Z590 is connected straight to the CPU to make use of 11th gen's new 4 dedicated lanes for it, but 10th gen doesn't have it so that slot won't work with one.

Ohh I did not know that. Well that's unfortunate! I guess it's not the worst thing i was looking for 3 m.2 ports and this board had it. Knowing this now I guess I can go with a z490 board and upgrade accordingly

They're the same thing, just from different perspectives. I said 10th gen had 4 fewer, and Kilrah said 11th gen has 4 more.

Mainstream Intel CPUs for ages have had 16 lanes that went to the main PCIe slot and that's it, 11th gen has 4 more for the SSD.

Ohhh okay sorry got a bit confused lol. Can't beat $279 just bought the 11700k for $360 gonna go return it. Worth losing one m.2 thanks for the insight much appreciated

If you go for a Z590 and 10th gen, go for one with 3 slots so you have 2 you can actually use.

Thanks for the tip. But I think imma just go z490 MSI mpg it has 2 m.2 and is on sale for $180 bad the 10700k for 279 can't beat it

I went z490 with my i9 10900kf build. It just made more sense.

I went with Z590 for actual PCIE4 in the event 11th gen was good.

At my age I need a magnify glass to read the text in motherboard manuals so I like to keep things simple.

So I over clocked my CPU to 4.5ghz and ran cine bench r23 everything seems stable  highest temps for the entire package I've saw so far is 83c it's at 1.35 volts

4.5ghz on a 10700K?

 

IIRC stock all-core should be around 4.7 or 4.8ghz

 

I believe your voltage is way high too. Should be able to do 4.5ghz at like 1.15 and stock (4.7ghz) at around 1.2-1.25v. And at 1.35v you should be able to get 5ghz all-core at least.
