IF ANYONE HAS A I5-8400 READ THIS!!!

So if you have an i5-8400 or something similar and have an asus mobo not sure if other boards support it but on my asus prime h310m-k just from enabling speedstep the cpu was going at 3.9ghz all core from the stock 3.8 so if anyone has a gpu higher than 1050ti paired with i5-8400 you will a very good performance gain

Speedstep wont give you extra clock speed. Speedstep does exactly the opposite of that, when CPU doesnt need to run at full power speedstep will clock it down and undervolt it. It is also something I disable if I am looking for most performance. If you meant to say you disabled it, then yes, it can have that effect but if you enabled it no.

yh ive looked it up but somehow my old i5-8400 idek how but goes up to 3.9 but it never went higher than 3.79 before enabling speedstep

It would be enabled by default and there isn't really any reason to turn it off in the first place.

It could be that with it off, your thermals were higher, resulting in downclocking, but now that it's on, your CPU can turn itself down to save power, thus outputting less heat, and thus getting better performance.

 

Otherwise, Speedstep should have little to no impact on performance, just power consumption and efficiency.
