My simulation setup started to smoke...

hi!

I have a Logitech Driving Force GT racing wheel, i was drifting in The crew 2, when it started to smoke. I quickly plugged it out of the wall, and the pc.

The wheel became heavy to turn before the smoke came. I opened it up and took a look inside, there was no wisual damage to it, other the the feedback motor being hard to turn WHEN PLUGGED IN TO THE PCB. And after i plugged it put, and plugged the wheel back in the computer, the light in the wheel flashes one time in like 0.25 of a second, all the buttons work.

Is there something i can do, change etc?

I think the best course of action here is just rma it cause smoke is usually a bad thing, prob the motor just overheated for some reason and broke, maybe it was trying to run crysis? Idk

It’s an older design.  Wiki says 2007.  https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Logitech_Driving_Force_GT. Also a PS3 thing, so there might be info on it as a PS3 accessory rather than a PC accessory.  Also might be useful to look up Logitech for this one. Steering wheels just aren’t a super common accessory. Might take a while to find someone that has one and has had this problem.

I might be able to locate the source of the smoke.  Maybe.  Race wheels are both digital and analog.  I’ve got sort of a knuckle dragger analog thought based on a couple of requirements that I don’t know if it has or not.  I remember a video that said lower end wheels (and Logitech is usually lower end) usually had a gear or belts attached to the motor rather than direct drive. This description reminds me a bit of old vacuum cleaner stuff. If it has a non toothed belt did you check the inside of the belt? Is it shiny?  (Burned belts are often shiny on the inside but not the outside).  If so you possibly might not have hurt anything (that would depend on other stuff) but the belt, you’ll need to replace if it is burned.  Burned belts lose ability to grip.  Not exactly a computer answer but it might be something.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.
