Does anyone know how to use Asus core unlocker on an M5a78-M-LX board.  I have tried to find the setting in the bios and could not see it.  Do I have to update bios or download some kind of software?

My Specs are

Ubuntu 13.10

AMD Sempron 145

XFX HD 6450 2GB

Asus M5a78-M-LX plus

For some reason i do not have that option in my bios.  Am I doing something terribly dumb and missing something simple?  could I have a bad motherboard or old bios?

Go to Asus' website and download the latest bios for your motherboard. Might not have been shipped with the latest.

You might need to update the BIOS. If you do get the other core unlocked and your computer becomes unstable or crashes often, etc. disable the other core, since it might be defective.

Basically, if AMD doesn't have enough budget chips, they'll take a good dual-core and cut it down. Likewise, if they have a defective dual-core, it automatically goes into the budget section (if the other core is good as well).

not sure. have you tried all those settings for advanced clock calibration to see what they do?

There is no option out there i looked at every tab and could not find one.  And to put salt on an open the wound any over clocking settings I try to apply do nothing.  Is there a complete step by step guide out there that could coach me through over clocking with this motherboard?  Would the fact that my processor is OEM change anything?post-40217-0-03035500-1397800484_thumb.p

no it wouldn't. i would contact asus via email and ask them. that way you wil know 100% if you can do it. it might have only be possible on later revisions of your board if there were any.
