new gpu "vga card is not supported by UEFI driver"

Enferlain

Changed my Nvidia card to a 6800xt and I get no display. Card lights up and fans work as well.

I forgot to uninstall the nvidia drivers before but I doubt that would cause it to turn this dumb.

I cleared CMOS with the button on the Mobo and it said this "vga card is not supported by UEFI driver"

Mobo is dark hero with 3801 bios. I tried enabling csm from a post I saw but it didn't help and now I don't get that screen even when I clear CMOS so can't get into bios but maybe it will randomly work. Also tripped ram training once for some reason during trying to boot into anything.

Any idea what am I missing?

I googled it and most of the posts say you don't need to uninstall it before. Also wouldn't you still be able to get into bios even if the drivers aren't installed?

Both technically true.

I'd still install the old GPU and use DDU.

It's so fucking annoying. I hate how you have to fuck around because of miniature mistakes and still have no clue if that was even the problem in the first place.

Can't get into bios anymore even with CMOS reset so I'll have to do that, can't really think of anything else to try. Maybe I plugged in some cable badly but it's not like I'll ever find out what was the actual cause.

This is so dumb. And I have to take the other side off because the power cables don't reach in this position.

Swapped back my previous GPU. Got this screen that says VGA card is not supported again. Why is it doing that? It never did that before.

Also, i don't have 3 keyboards or 2 mices

I think I booted into Windows cuz scroll NumLock etc works. But there is no display. What can still let me boot but not give me a display? Could there still be a bad connection somewhere?

Mobo shows b4 on the debug screen

Ok new idea is riser cable being PCIe gen 3 with a gen 4 card so gonna try changing it in bios and see how that goes.

Alright, either using a hdmi and clearing cmos fixed it or it was the turning the pcie from auto to gen 3. I'm booted in and working on DP, all juiced up. Thanks for the suggestions.

  • 1 year later...
I know, this is an old post but thought I'd share what seemed to resolved my issue. I was trying to enable secure boot, unsuccessfully. So, I contacted ASUS support, the support agent was of great help. She/he told me to be certain to follow the steps below. After I did, all was right in the world.
  1. During POST, press <Del> on the keyboard to go to BIOS
  2. In top menu, go to "Boot"
  3. Scroll down and see "Secure Boot"
  4. Set OS Type -> "Windows UEF|" in drop down menu
  5. Key Management -> Clear Default Secure
  6. Go back to "Boot" -> CSM -> Launch
  7. CSM -> Disabled
  8. F10 to save changes & reset;
  9. Go to Bios -> Boot -> Secure Boot -> Key
  10. Management -> Install Default Secure
  11. Boot Keys; F10 to save changes & reset
I can now install Windows 11 and even better, no more "The VGA card is not supported by UEFI driver" message(s).

Hope this helps someone.
