Watching 8K Youtube.

Go to solution Solved by Nayr438,

Edge only Supports Codecs available to Windows, meanwhile Chrome and Firefox ship there own.

8K requires the AV1 Codec which is not available out of the box for Windows, you will need to download it from the Microsoft Store.

So I am wondering is there a way to force youtube so show the 8K option in any browsers othan than chrome?

I literally use edge as my default and it doesn't show 8K, I have brave and vivaldi and they dont show 8K, I installed chrome yesterday and 8K works fine. I'm wondering if there is a way to to fix that?

Are you sure the video you were watching is available in 8K? This video shows an 8K option for me on both Firefox and Brave.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The only one of those videos I don't see 8K on is the Dolby video. Again tested on Brave and Firefox.

It could be that 8K HDR isn't available on browsers other than Chrome, since the others only mention being 8K, not 8K HDR. That still doesn't explain why you can't see 8K on the others however.

If you show "stats for nerds", the codec used is either vp09 and av01 which may play a role in which browser supports what. Just spitballing.

I don't even get 8K as an option using this one in Chrome. (93.0.4577.82)

Quick edit 2 mins later, same video (tokyo from above) now works on edge didn't try other browsers yet but idc really, 8K60. Thanks man.
