TV as monitor. Need help, please.

DarkEnigma

Hi everyone!

I was wondering which TV brand should i look for as a monitor from around 42"-46"max, i'm looking for a good one.

I know that many of you think that this is a bad idea, but i am far away from my TV and i want to play games in my computer from my couch.

Something around 1000-1200$(900-1000€) at least 120hz(real) and 3D, 4K its a possibility if it's not too expensive.

My last TV was a Samsung F6400 200hz 3D but just broke and i want to buy a new one.

Thanks for helping me out!

Enigma.

Go with any TV within your price range with a nice display ( IPS, or a similar panel ) with a resolution of 1920x1080 with the least input lagg and if you want: a 3D enabled one ( altough I don't recommend going for 3D as it's gimmicky and useless in my  opinion ).

So TL:DR

IPS panel

1920x1080

Few input lagg

Within your budget

Slim and nice looking ( personal preference )

Input lag is a huge concern when gaming on a TV. I wouldn't do it, but if you can find a TV with very low input lag, it will work fine i think.

WAT? You want a 3D 4K 120Hz TV?? I highly doubt you'll get anywhere near $1200, they are about $2500-$3000.

I wouldn't recommend a TV as a monitor, since it has ridiculously high inout lag. And you really can't game in 4K with todays GPUs. And if you really want a 4K TV, you would probably have to triple/quadrouple (is that a word?) your budget.

Not 3d but it is 4k in your budget: http://www.amazon.com/Seiki-Digital-SE50UY04-50-Inch-120Hz/dp/B00BXF7I9M/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1396963372&sr=8-2

But i would test it in a store to see if there is too much input lag

I have a lot of upgrade plans, and no money  :)

Any model that you know will work? If you say that 3D is useless then i'll go with a better one without 3D. I'll try to buy the best i can get in that range of price for gaming. 3D wasn't too important, just for a movie or a game from time to time, but i think i won't play too much in 3D because of the dizziness.

Thank you all for your replies.

ive been using tv's as monitors for ages, even now im using a 42in lg (1080p LED lk355 or summin)
no problem with input lag, quality is great, im maybe 3ft away and cant depict pixels.
to backup paralectic id say just get a 42-50in 1080p led tv with low input (though dont stress over it because i wouldnt be suprised if they bent the truth a little),
-having had a 3d phone....wouldnt bother with 3d.
-4k....1080p is still fine and WAYYYY cheaper
-120hz...okay not a bad idea but if you put v-sync on at 60fps pinned its allot better than 30fps that low end/console gamers define as playable (60fps FTW!)
that said you should be able to find a tv WELL within budget, i love LG but samsung are just as good, narrow it down and put the extra cash towards your pc/car/beer

Here is a link from a TV test. What do you think about those Sony models? They seem good to me.

http://www.hdtvtest.co.uk/news/input-lag

Is 6ms too much? I know people go for 1-2ms in monitors, but since i can't get a 32" or more monitor(because of the price) i'm trying to get the "best" HDTV that i can get for playing.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks.

That's good news, my actual TV is 42" but a old one... LG 1080p and still does the work. Now, after 6 years the color is a little bit ugly, but not too much noticiable. About half year ago i bought the Samsung one, but had really BAD luck and the screen broke... so i have to work a few months now and i'll buy the new one.

I'm thinking on getting a Sony Tv, they seem to have little input lag. Let's see how it goes and your comments will help me a lot in my decision. Thanks again.

I'm worried about the input lag, if i can find a Samsung that suits me, perfect. I'l check what choices i have. And about my TV, was a LED 3D 46".

Input lag will suck hugely no matter what you buy. Tvs are not meant for good gaming.

I game on my 40" Soniq 1080p tv @ 60hz and I love it. If you have ever gamed on a console before then you already know what the input lag will be like, its no greater on PC.

Do look up reviews on people using the tv you want as a monitor, just to make sure there aren't any RGB range quirks or HDMI handshake issues.
