How do I use a PS4 controller?

Per PCMag.com's guide, which step, exactly, are you not able to get through? I understand you mentioned you got to the Bluetooth part, but could you please specify in more detail which of the steps you are stuck on? Did you download & run the software they proposed?

download DS 3 Tool and find those guides there and follow them, including downloading the driver they tell you do in the program so that it finds your controller, this is what i use when playing Dark Souls on my PC, not sure they have PS4 support tho :/

First, if you have a PlayStation 4 and your controller is connected to it, turn off both the game console and controller. Then hold down the Share button and press the PlayStation button until the light bar flashes. Release the buttons and add the DualShock 4 to Windows like any Bluetooth device through the Add Device menu. It should show up as wireless controller.

Okay, so on that part I quoted above, what they are basically saying is you must "un-pair" your PS4 Controller from your PS4 before Windows will recognize it. Is it showing up in the Bluetooth Scan at all?

If it isn't, that's your problem.

If it is, to be quite honest, the only thing I would recommend is start over with the guide to make sure you did all of the prerequisites correctly. Though, even in that case, I feel you would get stuck on the same spot until you are able to get Windows to recognize it; meaning, nothing else is paired with it.
