Need a new phone, should I wait?

Booster6
So I need a new phone, but I am looking for advice on if I should get it soonish, or wait a bit.
Im using a Google Pixel 2XL, which I got in October 2018, coming up on 3 years. The battery has been pretty bad for a while, but with the pandemic I dont leave the house much, so its not a huge deal.
There are a few things I want to do with my phone that my phone is too old to support, but thats also not a huge deal. My plan was to wait until the Samsung S22 dropped in hopefully January, and either get it, or take advantage of the presumed price drop on the S21.
However, my phone now has an issue where when I plug it in, it immediately turns off. It does charge, and I can turn it back on while it is charging, but I am concerned that this is symptom of something that will kill my phone soonish, or that this behavior itself will kill my phone (I assume there is a short of some kind causing a power surge somewhere, but thats a guess.)
So what do you peeps think, should I just get a new phone, or just hold out til it does die.
Thanks!

If you can afford the S22 when it drops, you can afford a phone that doesn't fuck up all the time, right?

I personally wouldn't accept the way it's performing now, buy a new phone is my recommendation.

I would make sure to backup all the important stuff on the phone whenever possible whatever you decide upon doing. That sounds like a battery going bad (but could be anything though, I am no expert). Good luck!聽

I would also advise against Samsung phones - just because of the bloatware.聽

Grab a Pixel 6 when they arrive in October, or if you end up needing something right away, snag a Pixel 5a (if you live in the US) or an on-sale Galaxy S21. The 5a will deliver a similar or better camera experience while generally representing a step forward in other respects; the S21... well, it's still a fast flagship with solid camera performance.

It's not worth torturing yourself by waiting until January.

The new Pixel 6 is just around the corner, you could wait for that or snag a previous gen during a sale. You didn't really specify what you need your phone for, but I have the Pixel 5 and it's a decent midrange one. Solid battery, good screen, and small enough for one handed use. It ain't everyone's cup of tea, and doesn't necessarily do anything great, but it does everything just good enough in my book and I got it for more than $300 off MSRP 馃檪
