Can I just but my 5600x on the b550 and bios flash it from there?

Hi I just go a new motherboard and CPU and I was wondering if I needed a old CPU to be able to boot into the bios to flash it? I have an r5 1600 that I can use but I don't want to waste time.

For reference the motherboard I'm switching to is The B550m AORUS PRO - P

This board has a Q-flash feature. You can update the BIOS even with no CPU installed at all.

I didn't even think about visiting the motherboards website, it says it supports 5000 series Ryzen, so I should even have to flash it right?

You may, or you may not. It depends on when you bought the board, and if it's been sitting on a store shelf for a while or whether or not the vendor/retailer has pre-flashed it. If it's brand new, there is a good chance that you won't have to flash it for CPU support, but you should still check to see if it has the latest BIOS.

The Ryzen 5 1600 isn't compatible with B550 motherboards. The official support is 3rd gen (non APUs) and up.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

How many watts do I need? ATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explained, group reg is bad

My B550 board has BIOS flashback as well and I just flashed it to the most recent version before I even tried to put in my CPU. It only takes about 15 minutes and it's a fair way to test the motherboard and PSU anyway. You can set it up and have it going while you're unboxing your other parts.

 

Or maybe use the time to go refill your waterbottle LTTStore.com
