How can I lower the resolution of my monitor but keep the same aspect ratio?

cwgzz

So my monitor is 21:9 and it is 3440x1440 but I want to lower the 2k resolution to 1080p, but when I change it to 1920x1440 or something, it just squeezes the aspect ratio and I have black bars on the sides. I want to lower the resolution so I can get better performance out of games. My graphics card is gtx1650 mobile so it is not very strong.

Next down from 3440x1440 is 2560x1080

Ah okay this fixed it. Will lowering the resolution give me better performance on games?

Yes. I would recommend leaving your desktop at native 3440x1440 and change in-game resolution to 2560x1080

Choose a lower resolution that is the same aspect ratio. If you choose a lower resolution that is a different aspect ratio, such as 1920x1080 (16:9), it will give you black bars or stretch the display to fit.

As Skiiwee29 suggested try 2560x1080.

Yes, though I would recommend adjusting the resolution in the games graphics settings rather than changing the display settings for the system. That way you can keep the native resolution on desktop and in normal use and it's just the game that runs at the lower resolution. Set the game to full screen or windowed borderless if you want it to fill the display with the image of the game, if you set to windowed mode it will run as a smaller window on desktop.

I am trying to play Kingdom Hearts 3 on my PC and I can't get more than 35fps on it... even if I lower the resolution, I can't get the full 75fps that my monitor is capable of. I know that the gtx1650 mobile isn't very strong, but I don't think KH3 needs a powerful graphics card. But I could be wrong about that. But even when I put the graphics to 720p I still can't get the full 75fps
