Hi,

I have contracted 300mb / s of internet, but with the adapter (ASUS USB-AC51) I only get between 50/80 mb / s according to internet speed tests.

In addition, according to the computer in the control panel, the network speed is correct, but then it does not correspond to reality.

I thought it was a problem with the adapter, but when I tried it on a different pc in the same position, I did get the 300mb.

I have done everything that I have found on the internet but I can not find a solution, what can I do?

assuming you are using this because you don't have an ethernet port?

are you using it in a USB 2.0 port?

do you have other high bandwidth devices on the same usb controller?

did you look for drivers?

what does the spec sheet for the adapter say its rated for?

- Yes I have it, but it's too far from the computer

- USB 3.0

- No

- Yes, I have update it, but they are from 2017

- What do you refer with that?

What speeds do you get wired?

Its probably the adapter, that seems be a low end usb one. Id get a pcie wifi card with a intel ax210 chipset for much better wifi speeds.

800 mbps aprox

Update:

The other computer doesn't recieve either the 300mbps in the same position (now its 120/150 mbps),before was because i was using other adapter.
When bringing the computer to the side of the router, the adapter still does not receive 300 mbps (it receives about 180/220), and with the other computer the same, but I still do not understand that the control panel says that the network speed is higher than actual speed.

Control panel shows the link speed, which is normally higher than the data rate. You will never hit the rate speeds on a wif card. About 1/2 to 2/3 of the rate speeds is expcted for a wifi card.

Id get a better wifi card, taht seems to be the issue here.

So you think that simply is that the usb is not good and i can't do anything to improve the speed if it's in that position, no?

Yea getting a better wifi card would help a lot. Id get one with the intel ax210 chipset.

You can also set the USB adapter to run on the 5GHz band.

You should be able to set that in Device Manager.

See if that helps.

My girlfriend bought a TP-Link USB WiFi adapter for her laptop.

And changing it from the default (Auto 2.4GHz / 5GHz 802.11g/n/ac), to 802.11ac 5GHz improved the WiFi speed significantly.

It goes just as slow as before, but thanks for answering!
