Greetings folks,

So i've got this setup which i've had for 5 or so years
i5-6600k

8gb 2400 ram

gtx 1060.

What would be best cpu to upgrade to under 400 euros (Ram included)? Im looking to get a new motherboard aswell. I've seen people selling used ryzen 7 2700x, are they outdated or should i get new ryzen 7 3700x for additional money? Thanks for answers in advance.

Welcome to the forums!!!

What are you going to be doing with your PC??

Gaming? Rendering?

Something like a 5600X and B550 motherboard with 16GB of DDR4-3200 RAM would work (although it's likely it won't be under 400 Euros).

What country are you in? France this build comes out to 440 Euro, but in Germany it's 407.

Here's an Intel under your budget if you are in Germany.

I'm not actually trying to be as grumpy as it seems.

I will find your mentions of Ikea or Gnome and I will /s post.

I would consider getting a new graphics card if you just mainly games, Intel skylake is quite good for now. Something like 3060Ti would suit you well.

But of course, it wouldnt be sufficient for the further titles running DX12/Vulkan, so really its in your priorities, performance or long term longevity. If youre in the latter bar, this would be my picks:

PCPartPicker Part List

Motherboard: MSI B560M PRO-VDH Micro ATX LGA1200 Motherboard  (€111.90 @ Amazon Deutschland)
Memory: Crucial Ballistix 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory  (€74.90 @ Amazon Deutschland)
Total: €381.69

Intel's options, as pointed out by @IkeaGnome and @SorryClaire, would be good choices to to pick from if you wanted to upgrade your CPU and motherboard. The graphics card can be upgraded down the road when you save up more money or when prices return back to normal.

one reason im looking at ryzen is that games like csgo benefit from more cores, or has intel caught up yet with technology of ryzen? I havent been in the whirlpool of tech since i made my build, and last time i looked into AMD is when they had fx processors, so im just curious now which is best for bang for the buck, ryzen or intel 5 series

If you're looking at entry level computers under $600, Intel's i5s such as the 10600K/11400 will outperform the Ryzen 5 3600. They're both great chips for the mid-range.

The ds3h boards are really really bad boards and they max out at 6 cores due to otherwise their power delivery getting beyond overwhelmed. I'd not go for that board at all.
