Is a Supermicro X8DAi v2.0 'technically' able support Duel Xeon X5690 130W's

Go to solution Solved by Guest,

According to the documentation, it supports 5900 processors.

According to Intel chipset documentation, it supports the 130w chips too (chipset Intel 5520)

Intel® Xeon® Processor 5600 Series
The server board has to be at BIOS 45 minimum to boot with Intel® Xeon® Processor 5600 Series installed. Once booted, an upgrade to BIOS 48 or later must be done for the processor to run properly and the new features to become available.

Hey all,

Basically the question is in the title - in a perfect world, does this board support two of these 130w CPUs? (or is it theoretically able to / should do)?

Having done some reading of these forums I am aware that there is another version/model of this type of board capped at supporting 95w CPU's though I can't find any documentation that specifies whether this board that I have in particular (the X8DAi v2.0)  supports 130w CPU's or if it's also capped at 95w?

Further, the x5690 (while technically still a 5600's CPU) was released 3 years after this board came out.. does this have a potential to cause issues?

Honestly, even if I could get one x5690 CPU running on this board with the 48G ECC ram I have I'd be a happy enough camper to run this tower server as my main gaming PC... though still can't believe that in 2021 these older set ups offer so much bang for the buck.

Thanks,

Theo.
