Hi, I have a 6th gen i7 processor with tpm and secure boot enabled,

except I can't update to windows 11 is it because of my generation processor?

Also I have run WhynotWin11 and got this ↓, maybe this is causing the problem?

Will I be able to update to windows 11?

Thank you in advance

Regards,

B. Jacobs

No, you will NEVER be able to officially update to Windows 11 when it releases with the generation CPU you have. The best you could do is run the beta but at the end they'll force you back down to Windows 10. Microsoft officially stated that the workarounds to get into the Dev/Beta versions now will NOT work when it officially launches.

Something tells me it is going to be a constant battle for Microsoft. People are going to find new work arounds. Microsoft will probably block them for a little before they give up.

Microsoft won't do anything additionally. You'll have the blocks as is, and that is all. Microsoft always does minimal effort blocking.

They just want to avoid a Vista. They don't want people to go and say "Windows 11 sucks! Look how bloated it is!", when really it's their PC that is too old.

Windows 11 uses CPU security features which only the supported CPUs has the needed technology to have 0 performance impact due to their dedicated feature set built in. Older CPUs will have an impact. Now your CPU might be fast enough that you don't see much of an impact, which is possible, but still. Also, Microsoft wants to ensure that you have driver support and not use generic drivers or old drivers to ensure the best experience out of the OS. In exchange Windows 10 is supported until 2025 and Microsoft recommends for incompatible system to continue to use Windows 10. By that point on, you'll most likely upgrade your system.

For those that by-passes the requirements checks, that makes it obvious to the user that, hey, the system is not supported, so its normal if your experience got degraded over Windows 10, and Microsoft gets to say the same thing. There is a good chance also that the people that by-pass Windows 11 checks, knows that their computer sucks when it sucks.

Microsoft was nice with Vista, but it ended up that a great number of people got a crap experience, and complained quite vocally on how Vista was bad.

Vista was a fine OS if you had the actual hardware requirements, and fully supported hardware and peripherals where you would have official drivers for the OS.

I downloaded a windows 11 iso and was able to install it on my pc. Does this mean it will work too when the final version comes out or is it so that it doesn't check for cpu generation now but will do with the final version?

No. The isos that are currently floating around are based on the dev builds. They don't have the requirements enforced by the check. After the dev cycle ends you will need to do a clean install of windows 10.
