Should I buy 5600x or 5800x to pair with 6900 XT?

I recently upgraded my gaming rig with a 6900 XT and would like to upgrade my processer as well. I purchased a B550 motherboard and am torn between the 5600x and 5800x. I use my PC almost exclusively for 1440p gaming. Is there any significant reason to spend $100+ more on the 5800x? Will my graphics card be bottlenecked in any way by the 5600x? I want to go with whatever is the most future-proof, but obviously there are diminishing returns.

You said "upgraded", which means you currently have a system.

What CPU/motherboard/RAM do you have currently?

I was previously running a i7 7700k, but decided to switch over to AMD. I just purchased:

  • ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming-ITX
  • G.Skill TridentZ RGB Series 32GB

Ahh, ok. I'd say the 5800X, but what cooler do you have? The 5800X runs quite hot.

I'm using an EK-AIO 280 D-RGB.

What about power consumption? I'm currently using a Corsair SF750 Platinum.

I also have a 5600X.. its a sweet little CPU. Don't let people tell you its time is limited because it is "only" 6 cores. If you just play games and don't stare at cinibench all the time its more than enough. But if you could use the extra cores.. you get that, more cache, higher clocks, and it runs a little warmer.

You'll be fine with that, so I'd say 5800X. 750 watts should be plenty - 6900 XT can pull max 375W unless you have one with 3 8-pins, 5800X can pull max 235W through the 8-pin EPS connector. Unless you have a bunch of hard drives, you're under the limit.
