How's this look? I haven't made one on my own before, and just looking for some feedback before I pull the trigger. I plan to run on board graphics or wait til I get lucky on a gpu.

Budget (including currency): sub 2000, not being gouged on a gpu

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: lots of games, GTA

I would say get a better airflow case. The H510i only supports front-mounted AIOs, so airflow to the GPU will be highly restricted. Paired with a case that doesn't have good airflow in the first place, your GPU specifically could get pretty hot.

The 11700k isn't bad, but unless you specifically need 8 cores, going with an 11600k would be a better purchase in my opinion as they have similar gaming performance. If you do actually need 8 cores, go with a 5800x as it will provide better multi threaded performance while basically performing on par with the 11700k in games. You could probably find a B550 board for cheaper than that B560 board as well as being able to go with a cheaper cooler since the 5800x draws less power. Both of these factors could allow you to get the GPU tier up, which would provide much bigger gains in the majority of games compared with the couple of percent higher CPU gaming performance from the 11700k.

If you go with the 5800x, just so you can use your PC, just get a cheap GT 1030 GDDR5 or something, which can provide playable framerates in GTA V (even at high settings). It would perform a lot better than the Intel iGPU anyway and you could resell it once you get your good GPU.

The more I learn, the more I realise I don't actually know anything.

Recommendations: Lian Li 205m (sleek, pretty decent airflow for a non-mesh front panel and cheap), i5-10400f (Ryzen 5 3600 performance, 20% cheaper), Arctic P14 PWM fans, Logitech g305.

Is there a reason you're going with the 11700K when you don't have an overclocking motherboard? The 11700 non-K, non-F is about $40 cheaper on Newegg.

And it comes with Death Stranding for free right now, while the 11700K does not, so even more value there.

What would be a good board for overclocking.

Personally, I don't think the 11th gen chips are worth overclocking - they're clocked near the limits out of the box - but if you want to do any overclocking with Intel, you need to get a Z series board, which will cost more.

Looking at Hardware Unboxed's videos on Z590 VRM testing, it looks like Asus did a pretty good job with the Z590 boards. The best board was the Asus ROG Strix Z590-A Gaming WiFi, although it's pricy at well over $300. The Asus Tuf Gaming seems to be the best in terms of value, performing very well for just $230. And the Asus Z590-P looks weak, but if you only do light overclocking, it should be okay, and at $190 it isn't much more expensive than the Tomahawk. If you want to go with MSI still, they did alright, with their Z590 Gaming Plus, Tomahawk, and Torpedo doing well.

I can can get a work discount on the 11700k and 11900k of about 10%. I would have to check 5800x.

I would also like to have the option to overclock, so if you have a good board suggestion on that as well I would gladly take it.

Any recommendations on a case for airflow, I am trying to stick with a black/red theme.

I would just buy a cheap used gpu as a place holder for about 40$. GT710 or something similar crap. Because otherwise you are buying an over-priced Intel platform that is offering about half the perf per watt than amd. That means you have to overspend on motherboard and cooler when compared to 5800X/5900X thanks to Intel 8-core parts needing as beefy cooling and motherboard vrm as 5950X oc'd.

Yes, that board would be overclockable and it did well in Hardware Unboxed's VRM thermal testing, so it should be decent.

If you really wanna go intel and are actually serious about overclocking, then ditch most of the rgb and pcie gen4 (which is basically useless for now) for a better board with 16 phase vrms and a 420mm aio

Also you do not need 32gb of ram just to game
