I'm a NOOB. What do you think?

Wgann101

So I'm in college rn and have been gaming on my laptop for quite some time. I feel it's time to upgrade, and I want to build myself. It seems I maybe should wait a while longer because of prices and such but heres something I came up with what are your opinions.

There is not a graphics card but I'm thinking theres a PNY GT 710 for $70 that I could use till I get a better option.

Please give me the raw on what you think.

Do NOT get a gt710 for 70usd, That is a total scam, I would rather get a used card, than a new 70usd gt710. Before the shortage 710s were ~30-40eur

As @Latvian Videosaid, don't get a 710, it's not worth the money. Get a used card.

What do yall think would be best for around 200, Im sure whatever I get could possibly bottle neck the cpu? but I was trying to make my build as budget as possible while still being upgradeable ( Im thinking a Ryzen 5 over over core i3 for $70 more is a good decision).

Whatever you get for 200 is unlikely to bottleneck a Ryzen 5.

I don't know your locale, so just have a look at what you can get in your area (ebay etc.) and then look on youtube at that card on certain games to see what FPS you'll get and see if it's right for you

The system is good overall, as you can upgrade the cpu to 5000 series ryzen. Like @Ezzy-525said, anything for 200usd isnt likely to bottleneck it. The used market is good, when doing things on a budget. I dont know the market around you, but you could be looking at gtx1060 or a gtx1660.

I found this and it looks like the seller is good? I've never used ebay but he seems legit.

Check if there is a 1650 around the same price, as the 1650 performs a lot better than the 1050

no luck, cheapest are $300 I feel like no matter what I'm looking at its gonna cost about 50% more right now.

What about a 1030 for $80 is that not bad?

Whatever I get will do better than the intel integrated graphics on my laptop I'm sure? Thats really all I'm after.

That is a lot better than a 710 for sure. It is about half of the performance of the 1050 (in passmark). You can also try checking for a 970/960/950, as the 950 performs about the same as the 1050 (according to this site)

I'm a NOOB.

Spoiler

Hi Noob, im Claire

At 500$, you definitely better off going used in any day. You can find an entire Dell Optiplex 7020/9020 full tower for 300$ (Configs with 2x8GB memory would be the ideal scenario). Slap a used 1650 Super when the market normalize and a new SSD, and you can squeeze it in 500$ or a bit more.

You could look at a Ryzen 5 G processor with integrated graphics if you were going to go with a 710 for a while until sticking a real GPU in.

I'm thinking the 1030 for $80, honestly I have no knowledge but I'm guessing I'll be happy considering this will be my first rig and I've only ever gamed on stock laptops. and if not its $80 instead $200 and will at least get me gaming till I can get a better card.

thankyou for the help

No problem, the 1030 likely is a lot better than most laptops.
