Little question for gaming performance; AMD SYSTEM

TwelfthSense

Hi, this will be quick.

I have a FX8320, HD 7770, 8GB RIPJAW RAM.

I play a lot of games, mostly ArmA 2 online mods (Life mods and DayZ) Don't club me to death please

Online, I struggle to get 20-30 fps while other people with just quad-core amd processors and cards equivalent to the 7770 seem to get 40, and an i5 will get 60+

once again, don't beat me. but with the Intel CPU stick this time please

I'm unsure what is causing me to get such low frames.

If anyone could help, It would be greatly appreciated!

ps; new to forums

Well Arma is very CPU intensive and it may as well be the servers fault capping your frames depending on your ping/ stress on the server.

You may want to save and make the switch to Intel with its stronger quad core performance than the 8320s less powerful 8 cores... (Im thinking about making the switch to a next gen Intel chip when they come out for pretty much the same reason as you)

Hope I could help!

8320 is awesome, 7770 is gamer grade but entry gamer grade, get an r9-270 and overclock both

arma 2 runs like dog s*** but my 7850 can max arma 3 at 1080p, the future looks multithreaded (even phones) so ipc is going to become a secondary concern and overall power will prevail overall.

most people runnign quad cores are fine for now still however more threads (real ones, not made up ones) can be a benefit for video editing and assigned for other tasks so you can be encoding or recording WHILE you game.

Yeah, I've been looking into the Intel I5 and I7 series CPU's. I went with AMD due to budget. It's something that seems worth while. and as for the GPU; I've been thinking of getting a 760 or 770 once I get enough money. Meanwhile; I'm quite a broke man

agree on arma 3, thats like crysis 3!

but arma 2 is a dog-not demanding per se.

all of them scale across n cores regardless so money spent on the gpu is better than cpu

8320+780=£470

4670k+gtx770=£440 whats going to perform better...

arma3 3ghz phenom x4 7850

arma 3 at 4ghz on phenom quad, gpu limited=spend money on that.

Your CPU is fine. In fact don't upgrade your CPU or switch to Intel. The problem is your CPU is gimped by your GPU. Save up and upgrade your GPU. The 7770 is great for a budget choice but that's about it.

I agree, don't know why so many are quick to blame the CPU, looks like the HD7770, an entry level gaming card now, with its 1GB VRAM is the limiting factor.

At TS, my recommendation is for you to get a more powerful card, like a 280X or GTX770 or higher. Also wouldn't hurt, if you hadn't already done so, if you slap on a good 3rd party cooler on that FX8320 and get it to 4ghz or higher. I have an FX8350 at stock 4ghz and 2x GTX670 in SLi and Crysis 3 isn't a problem maxed out.

no, it all depends.

Arma 2 can only efficiently utilize 1 of your 8 cores. that means 1/8 of your performance.

While, someone with a quad core or dual core. Will have 1/2 or 1/4 of its performance used.

did this help? that is why, things seme the way they do to you.

You can verify in windows task manager ( ctrl-alt-delete) if any of your cores hit 100% while your having performance issues, like when playing games as you described.

I know I have a GPU bottleneck. And I am saving up (trying to at least) for a Non-Reference 770, or a 780 if i get more saved.

Yeah, I fully understand that. about 85% of the CPU's possible performance is essentially "parked" by the game engine.
